What to do at the Port of LA? We live just 10 mins from the port. The port of LA is a working port and one of the largest, so it will not be the prettiest to see. Also it was a naval shipyard, tuna cannery and what used to be home to over 200 commercial fishing boats. So don't expect the cruise terminal to be pretty like Florida. Where to stay near the port. I suggest the Double Tree or the Hilton. Where to eat in San Pedro. San Pedro fish market and restaurant, 22nd street landing, Rafaello's, Omelet and Waffle House, Happy Diner, Sandwich Saloon. We have the USS IOWA a 2 hour tour, the cabrillo marine museum, the maritime muesum, the Victory Lane as well. If you want to venture out, head over to Long Beach and the Queen Mary and Pine Avenue where there is tons of shopping and Restaurants and George's Greek cafe is my favorite next to mama's cooking. If you want beaches, head to Redondo home of the Beach Boys, Hermosa or Manhattan home of the LA KINGS. Be smart, be safe and go out in groups.

The San Pedro cruise terminal was very organized. We stayed at the crowne plaza in San Pedro it was ok they only had one elevator working which was ridiculous. The cool thing was they had a free shuttle that took us to the cruise ship. We got out of the shuttle and a porter grabbed our bags. We walked right into the cruise terminal and in 10 minutes we were in the ship.

Stayed at the Doubletree San Pedro, just a few minutes from the terminal. Used the Stay and Sail Package. You park your car there free as a guest and they shuttle you to the terminal and pick you up at the end of the cruise. Beats $20/day at the Terminal. Stay the night before and begin the relaxation so you don't have to go through the stress of LA traffic on sail day.

Very nice port experience. Flew in the day before and stayed at the Crown Plaza in San Pedro with a very short shuttle ride to the pier. Embarkation was a snap and debarkation was just as east and relatively fast. All in all a very nice experience.

This is where my vacation started. I flew into LAX and took an uber to my hotel in San Pedro. The uber was $35 and I can’t tell you exactly how long the drive as because the driver and I chatted it up the whole time. I stayed at the Doubletree by Hilton, it was about $250 for the night and offered free shuttle service to the ship (Norwegian Star). The shuttle started its routes at 10 am and the last shuttle leaves at noon. As soon as I checked in I got on the list for the 10am shuttle. I was the 1st to signup, but by the morning it was full. I didn’t get to visit the city as I was soooo sleepy after my flight.
