Q: I am traveling with someone who is mobile in a wheelchair and another traveler using an electric scooter. I am concerned about when we are in ports and get off the ship. These two can’t go on the tender, so they will stay on the ship. If the traveler in the wheelchair needs help maneuvering over bumps or other places, is there a way to ensure that help is provided?

A: The crew is very helpful getting people on and off the ship when docked. Otherwise, you are are mostly on your own. I pushed my Dad around for several years. Hopefully you will have another person to assist. Cobblestones are very difficult. Ramps /... curb cuts are often lacking. If your wheelchair user can stand and walk a few steps, it will help. Good luck.See More

A: Lookup scooter rentals for wheelchair users. Google "electric scooter rental (your port) cruise."I am traveling from FLL with my aunt and renting one. They drop it off at your cabin and come pick it up from the ship. This way the wheelchair users are... n't restricted to being pushed and have some independence.See More

A: I am not concerned with excursions. I am concerned about leaving these two people behind on the ship. Will the crew help the person that is in the wheelchair (if needed)?

A: The crew is very helpful getting on and off the ship. Otherwise you’re on your own. It can be a major walk just getting to the busses. Few are accessible although HAL does have a few accessible excursions. The steps in the bus are quite high. Cobble... stones are difficult. My sister and I took our Dad for years. I pushed. A pair of gloves for hand protection was helpfulSee More

A: I use a shoe bag with hoos on top, not over the door. It's wonderful!

A: It is usually fully booked, so I advise you make reservations. You can make them on board at the service desk, but if you do this then do it when you first get on the ship. It is easier to book your reservations on the Holland America website in adva... nce and pick days the ship is at sea. Also book the time they first open to get a ocean view table.See More
