We had a verandah suite, I'm not sure what the difference would be between that and a balcony. It was a decent sized room compared to the inside and oceanview rooms. Our verandah was great. I wouldn't have wanted to do this or any Alaskan cruise without the option of a verandah. That is where we spent most of our time on the ship.
Size and layout was good. Cleanliness was good. Bed was really comfy. The room was VERY dated and so many things in disrepair. Tile in bathroom was coming up, one plug in for the entire room, ceiling tiles loose, carpet degraded. Lots of little things that seemed to be ill-conceived. For example, the drawers had to be pulled by under the drawer - thus about ripping all your fingernails off to get them open.
Roomy with lots of storage. Bed was very comfortable. Binoculars and wool throw in room were great for the early morning times on the veranda. Curtains separating the bedroom area from the sitting area provided a darker bedroom area for sleeping, as well as for when one person rises before the other.
