Had the best time, ship was amazing, cabin, food, drinks and crew were beyond great! Loved the relaxed atmosphere, friendliness of the crew, informal dress, duo music, adventure of going on shore and exploring. We will be back!

Nice way to sample the Rivieras! by ddadesign4u

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Wind Surf / Destination: Europe - Mediterranean

Over all we enjoyed our cruise. Thought the sails would be used more than they were. Food was nice for the most part, but desserts lacked. Need more hooks in staterooms. Floor plan of yacht in the elevators is oriented the wrong way...should be facing the same way the boat is: The hallways all look the same, so it can be difficult the first few days to know if you are walking to the bow or the stern. Also, these plans of the ship should be posted in the hallway near steps as well. Evening entertainment was nice, but needed a bit more spark and diversity. The BBQ was very nicely done! We are just extremely disappointed in the alternate port that Windstar chose due to high winds. La Seine was a terrible port and we lost a complete day of our trip there. Taxi's were unavailable at the port. The least Windstar could have done was to provide some sort of shuttle service or at least notified local taxi company of our unplanned day in port. We understand that port reservations are made a year in advance, but if Windstar knows that this area of the Mediterranean is traditionally very windy at this time of year, then a port should be planned rather than hoping to use the tenders.

The PERFECT Cruise by cvance

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Wind Surf / Destination: Europe - Mediterranean

This was our first Windstar cruise but won't be the last one. It was a truly enjoyable and first-rate experience and we can't recommend it highly enough. It is the perfect antidote to the hustle and bustle or crowded, big cruise ships.

Not for those with limited mobility by pblack6517

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Wind Surf / Destination: Caribbean

This cruise does not offer much for those with limited mobility. If you can't get off the ship, there is very little of interest. It was just about a complete waste of my money.

Wonderful First Time by lauramosso

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Wind Surf / Destination: Europe - Mediterranean

My friend likes to cruise, I don't.  So we compromised on a small ship cruise and couldn't have been more delighted.  The Wind Surf was lovely, our room comfortable, and the crew were fantastic.  The food was very good and there was always good variety.  And of course we met some very lovely people and had a great time.  The excursions were good, however, we hit a few glitches.  Taormina; maybe I picked the wrong excursion, but the tour with the winery lunch didn't leave enough time to stroll and shop in the town, which the description said we would have.  The winery was at such a distance that at the end of the day it felt as if we had spent most of the day on the bus.  The winery lunch seemed as if they wanted to just get us in and out ASAP.  The day scheduled for tours of Pompeii and Herculaneum was the first Sunday of the month.  All sites and museums are free to Italians on the first Sunday.  We stood on line for 2 hours at Herculaneum and later heard that of two busses only one got into Pompeii because the site closed due to the crowds.  Additional tours were scheduled for the next day but we were so tired we cancelled our tour of Pompeii and stayed on the ship all day.  Not really a bad thing, we had a very relaxing day.  All in all, we had a great time and before we disembarked we were already talking about another cruise.Happy

interesting itenerary--the experence on board uneven by Yiannaros

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Wind Surf / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

The cabins were excellent the public areas need some improvement.  The food except the grill was mediocre. Plenty of space for passengers in restaurants and public places.  Nice and friendly crew members.

We'll be back on another Wind Star Cruise soon! by pakellogg

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Wind Surf / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

After sailing on a few large ship cruises, we had forgotten then benefits of small quaint ports, fewer more seasoned travelers and few children on board. Loved this experience again after 20+ years since our last Wind Star voyage. Looking forward to doing it again soon. Despite the fact it takes more work to get off the ship when tendering, love not being at a dock and out in the bay. Loved most of the ports and were glad to be well taken care of in semi-luxury.

Great itinerary, but the ship is not so great by Sh07

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Wind Surf / Destination: Europe - Western Mediterranean

Positives for customer service and ease of operations. The team works to give you a good experience.  The ship is in need of maintenance - rusty and uncared for exterior. It was sad. The interiors were functional but quite dated in appearance. Overall, the winning itinerary was just what I wanted and the reason I booked this particular cruise. I had a good time but wish the ship had been in better form. This is small ship cruising but not luxury cruising and too expensive for what you get.

Consistently outstanding by flyprkr

Ship: Wind Surf / Destination: Europe - Mediterranean

They really know how to do cruising the right way.  The level of excellence can not be found with any other cruise line.  We love all of their cruises and have 3 more planned over the next twelve months.

Another great Windstar cruise by S2Sailor

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Wind Surf / Destination: Europe - Mediterranean

Overall our trip lived up to Windstar high standards.  The staff was great as usual: 3 or 4 of them remembered us from our cruise last year and all of them seemed genuinely pleased that we had returned and took very good care of us.  Because this was a culinary/wine cruise, the food and wine selections were terrific; no need to amplify that part of the experience.

I believe this was the first time that a couple of the land excursions had been scheduled and, unfortunately, they were not especially interesting or well planned.  Neither Ibiza or Tangiers were worth the time or price...especially Ibiza which was extremely overpriced and very poorly done.

That said, the trip was another wonderful experience on a Windstar ship and I am sure we will schedule further trips with them.

Outstanding! by nmayer1941

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Wind Surf / Destination: Transatlantic

The Wind Surf is a very special motor sailing yacht. Wee have been on it for five different cruises and it is just a terrific ship, The Atlantic Crossing was amazing because we ha=d inly 36 passengers on a ship that can carry slightly over 300 passengers. Our fellow passengers were genuinely nice people and se all got to know one another as we crossed the Atlantic. The officers and crew, both the vessel operation and the hotel side were amazing. the wait and bar staffs are the best we have ever seen and called us by name from day one. There is a friendliness and warmth on the ship that makes one feel very much at home.  This was a unique trip and one that we will do again.

five star Food, service and loads included by film35mm

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Wind Surf / Destination: Caribbean

First time cruise on windstar and now wont cruise anyone else. Ship was very clean. Had booked lowest end room and it was quite large. Loads of included amenities from free snorkel gear to stocked beverage refrigerator in room, coffee bar, speciality restaurant etc... Loved not being nickeled and dimed to death on board. The port talks every night actually gave you tips on what to avoid on the islands and what to see rather than shilling their excursions or on land vendors. Their excursions by way had the lowest markup I had seen from any of the big cruise lines I had been on. They opened up the back of the boat on port days and you could take out all their water toys free of charge paddle boards, kayaks , hobie cats etc...On St. Lucia Day they held a big BBQ on land with sit down meal, beach umbrellas, water toys with some of the best snorkeling on the trip. They also took us out on tubing runs with speedboats. Once again this was all free of any extra charges. If you want onboard entertainment(shows, bingo) etc) this cruise line is not for you. Food was five star!! The menus were well planned .

Great Ship and Itinerary by rick253low

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Wind Surf / Destination: Caribbean

Although a nearly 30 yr ship with some insurmountable design issues, thoughtful renovations to cabins make for very nice accommodations.  Seemingly nearly all Indonesian crew, terrific at all levels of service.  Mostly good stopovers, a mixed bag on excursions,  My suggestion is to spend much time on-line before departing and pick your own.  The cruise line should send folks to update their excursion resources. 250-310 passenger cruise line seems the right size for ease of food service, embarking and disembarking.  On-board entertainment is the downside, practically none.  How does a cruise line economically provide worthwhile entertainment to 300?  In a a few words: with a lot of creativity.

Wind Surf dream come true! by lee924

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Wind Surf / Destination: Caribbean

The Wind surf was a dream come true, wasn't aware this type of cruise existed. No crowds, no lines, no noise, no hassle.... the ship itself was beautiful. Classy, clean, elegant, quiet.... the staff.... i could not say enough... outstanding. I was with two other people who had been on her last year, many of the staff greeted them by first name as they remembered them... the food on board, best I have ever had on a ship. Im not sure I will ever be able to go on a big ship again, as this was the most awesome experience I have ever had. Even though the ports were not really nice (except St Barts) Id d the same again, just to be on her.
