Another great week with HAL

Sail Date: November 25, 2007

Reviewed: 6 years ago

Traveled As: Family (older children)

Room Type: Balcony

The Westerdam is large enough to have a broad range of venues and activities, but small enough that you see people you know again & again, and you don't have to deal with overcrowded buffets, insufficient lounge chairs, and long waits for an elevator.

Pros: the crew, especially the hotel staff

Cons: having to go home

Recommends Westerdam? Yes!

Children's Programs
My 14 year old only attended one time, but she had fun. Not many kids on board the week we traveled.
Ship Quality
The crew is always cleaning & maintaining this ship, inside & out.
Food and Dining
The presentation and variety of food items served in the dining room is incredible. However, the Lido (casual dining) serves wonderful food items as well, with only a bit less choice and fanfare than in the main dining room. Don't miss the high teas!
Cabin / Stateroom
Storage space was more than adequate. Comfortable furniture on the verandah. Bathrooms are spacious by ship standards. This cruise, my daughter brought her own DVDs to play.
Service and Staff
Our cabin steward, Andy, met us a few minutes after arrival. He asked our names, and greeted us every time we passed him in a hallway. Crew members were warm & friendly. They seemed to make a special effort to start conversations with anybody who looked lonely or worried.
Entertainment
I love HAL because it is not as frantic as some other cruise lines. There are activities, but you can also hang out in a public area with a good book, and be undisturbed. The evening entertainment was OK.
