Review summary

This was a perfect cruise to visit a variety of islands, which was our purpose. No sea days, and we spent every day out and about on the islands. If RC could just get their act together on their food and dining experience, it would have been perfect.

Embarkation

4 out of 5
Long lines but moved along at a fair pace.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

1 out of 5
Food was not good. We went on a Royal Caribbean cruise last year and the quality of food had decreased significantly. Their quality of beef was often inedible, except for the Chops filet. The wait for My Time Dining with a reservation was around 30 minutes, we finally gave up and ate more often at the Windjammer Buffet. We were able to find seats at dinner at the Windjammer, but struggled to find seats for breakfast. In the morning, staff could not keep up with the volume of guests & it was chaotic.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
We spent most of our time in the ports, so did not access any ship activities.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
Some main stage shows were excellent; the acrobatic duo, Argentina performers, and the first RC singers and dancers. They have some very talented performers. Also of special note were the woman at the piano bar and the man at the pub, both were excellent. There was also another group headed by a female singer that was high energy & excellent.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Staff were all accommodating and helpful.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
I would say they tried to keep the ship clean, but with 4000 guests, tables were not always cleaned off. Some of the furniture appeared worn.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Room was great, plenty of storage. We were very happy with our cabin.

Ship tip

If you are leaving out of Puerto Rico, give yourself plenty of time to get in and out of the port, very congested with traffic.

Ports of call

San Juan, Puerto Rico

3 out of 5
We stayed three nights in Old San Juan prior to the cruise. This ship was not docked in the Old San Juan port, but the port on the other side of the city. The port was not convenient to visit anywhere via walking and was very congested with traffic. Give yourself plenty of time to get in and out of the port. The port in Old San Juan was much nicer, walkable with lots of shopping and restaurants.

Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas

We walked to the water taxi which was very close by and visited Honeymoon Beach on Water Island, highly recommend. Quiet, beautiful beach with beach bar/ snack restaurant and the best bushwackers!

Frederiksted, St. Croix, U.S.V.I.

Plenty of shopping and eating opportunities. We took the RC tour to Buck Island Reef, highly recommend, crystal clear water, plenty of fish. The beach there is spectacular.

Philipsburg, St. Maarten

5 out of 5
We took the RC America's Cup Racing excursion and loved it. We are sailors and this is the first sailing tour we have ever taken that really sailed and raced. So much fun. Expect you will be put to work on the boat, the crew was great at directing guests, and it will be a fun adventure. Much better than we ever anticipated. Just do it!

Bridgetown, Barbados

5 out of 5
We walked through town to Carlisle Beach. Beautiful beach with pink sand! Lots of restaurants and bars if you want that, or stay at the end of the beach closest to town if you want a more quiet experience. Lovely beach day.

Basseterre, St. Kitts

5 out of 5
Big shopping and dining area in port. We took the RC Essentials of St Kitts tour and were glad we did. The tour gave a nice overview of the island. The stop at Wingfield Estate/Caribe Batik and Brimstone Hill Fortress were good.

Disembarkation

3 out of 5
A little chaotic. Lots of people, no one really paid attention to the time they were supposed to leave the ship, so it was pretty crowded.
