Small ship, tiny pool, not much activities by New

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Vision of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Service varies. Outstanding services from Edward (deck 4 bar), Ursula and Nancy (waitresses at deck 4 dining), Carlene (deck 4 housekeeping). Some others are very cold and not welcoming.

Good But Not Great by jill1324

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Vision of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The Vision of the Seas was ok, it had been updated but there was not as much to do on board as I would have liked.  Our service from the dining rooms to our stateroom was excellent. Everyone on board was very friendly and accommodating. The food was not as good as we had on our last cruise with Royal Caribbean.  One major negative was the smoking areas on board, the casino was so smoke filled most of the time we did not even spend any time there. Maybe that is not an issue for most people but being from a nonsmoking family and from a state that prohibits smoking in public places I was a bit surprised how many times I was bothered by smoke.  The musical performances were "cheesy" at best.  Our last cruise was on the Jewel of the Seas with is slightly bigger and I did not have an issue with motion, the water did not appear to be unusually rough but you could feel a lot of movement throughout the ship especially the higher up you would go. We had heard from several others that they too thought that the ride was rather rough.  Finally, the destinations were great, we booked all of our excursions on our own and they worked out perfectly.  We were picked up on time and returned to port in plenty of time to make the ship. By not booking through the ship we  saved quite a bit of money. The only other major negative was the disembarking, we were 45 minutes late, and it was very unorganized.  Overall we had a great time because of the group we were with, but if you are looking for a boat with a lot of bells and whistles you may want to look elsewhere.

Best vacation ever!! by pldrenth

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Vision of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

This was our first cruise and weren't sure how we would like it.  We had the best time ever.   Royal Caribbean treated us like royalty.   Everyone we came in contact with from our stateroom attendant to our waiter, treated us like we were somebody important.  We cruised with friends and we all had the same thought, we are going to do this again.  We had so much fun with the excursions and  other activities on the ship, we were busy from the time we got up in the morning until the time we went to bed.  The food was also excellent, we loved dining every night in the dining room and also got to know our wait staff because we had the same ones every night.  They were so much fun!   The food on the buffet was also very good, anytime of the day if you were hungry you could count on the buffet to satisfy your hunger.   Can't wait til our next cruise!

First time cruiser by amudpuppie

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Vision of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Had a wonderful time as a first time cruiser. Went with friends who were pros at cruising with 15+ under their belt. The service was excellent from boarding to stateroom attendance to food to on board experience. The ship is not an over the top vessel but was well kept and perfect for those more interested in a relaxing environment rather than a snooty experience. Cruises only excursions were the best in enjoyment and value

Just OK by tdmiller

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Vision of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The staff was awesome. Very Friendly and courteous. The ship was just OK. I traveled with my family and during the days at sea there was not much to do  for them. The one pool that they could use was crowded and all of the competitions that were held onboard were adults only and most of the time they closed the that pool down during them. They had another pool on the ship but it was adult only and it seemed to draw the much older crowd (less then half full most of the time). The food had a lot to be desired. We ended up paying to eat at one of the specialty restaurants twice because the other selections were minimal and not all that anyway. Honestly not sure if I would cruise Royal Caribbean again. I have sailed on Carnival several times and have yet to have a bad experience with them. I think I will be sticking to Carnival from here on out especially if I am with the family.

Great cruise for the whole family by nicolejohnson

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Vision of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

This was a great cruise.  It was my 9 year old daughter's first cruise and she loved it. The Adventure Ocean staff and activities were great.  She couldn't wait to go there each night after dinner which allowed the adults to enjoy the evening performances.  The dining room waiters were great at getting her to try different foods - bringing adult entrees in addition to the kids meals.   There were great activities available at all the ports of call.  The Dolphin Discover at Cozumel and the Zip Line in Honduras were favorites.

Cruise experience by tmjones1962

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Vision of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

outstanding cruise on the Vision of the Seas.  Very good entertainment and the cruise director made it a fun experience with his up to the moment events.  i really enjoyed the live music and the theater performances.  Compare to my last two cruises with Royal Caribbean this ship was a little smaller but the people was more friendly.  I recommend this cruise to all my friends.

Nice Ship by wscharbrou

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Vision of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

We really enjoyed the boat and the activities on board. Other cruises we have taken were on larger boats and we found this smaller boat to be the perfect size because it was so easy to  get around. We aren't big on taking the ship excursions so we set out on our own. It was easy to hire independents to give us tours of the ports and surrounding areas. We had plenty of time to sightsee and shop and still get back without feeling rushed. The entertainment was also excellent. We both commented the trip was nice and the staff on this cruise was the best we have ever had by a large margin.  Our comparison of Western Carribean as opposed to Eastern ports leans us slightly in favor of the Eastern ports.

Not as expected by RTfromDenver

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Vision of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Staff and food as good as I remember it from years past: very friendly and accommodating staff; food consistently good with great variety/choices almost any time of the day or night.

As for the rest, it was all 'selling up' at every turn: drink package? Well, even when some items are listed as 'in range' of the quoted item price, in some areas they are not available... so, for a week, I heard "not in your package' or 'extra charge' and repeated consulting with 'the manager' to accommodate an 'exception'  Frankly, I am done buying used cars for a reason!  Dinner interrupted to run the card at every drink... do they think I was going to jump ship or something???

And the room: nowhere was noted that it was right under a storage area (I guess) busy 24/7 moving every possible piece of heavy equipment available (impossible to rest).

Excursions were average to mediocre: rushed at best, some did not merit a tip.

And... no longer able to pick any item from the menu, now we have 'extra charge' items, even in the main dining rooms... no thanks.

Summary: the people/staff try really hard to salvage a pathetic marketing strategy, but is not working with me, so long RC.

Vision of seas-RC by amyb53

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Vision of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

LoveLoved this cruise because the captain and officers were very involved and we saw them all over the ship- even singing karaoke! The itinerary was great! Did an excursion in Belize to lamanai ruins with speed boat ride on the river. We had the best tour guides- the Lyons brothers-very knowledgable and entertaining! We saw parrots, monkeys and even a crocodile. We have taken cruises on other cruise lines but always feel that RC is the best and staff go out of their way to make sure you have fun

Good value cruise by Randy123

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Vision of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Royal Caribbean provides a quality experience at a good price. The Western Caribbean ports other than Cozumel are small and the port shops are identical. .  You will require taxis or tours to gain any local shopping experience away from the ports.

The dining experience was good with the buffet in the Windjammer Café is likely a better bet than the main dining room.  There is exceptional choices and always something you will like.   The main dining has good choice but the food quality was only average and the servers are very rushed.  For additional money you can upgrade to specialty dining.

My main complaint was the continuous requests for pictures whether you want them or not and the repeated requests for additional gratuities for the staff.

Overall, this was a good cruise and the price was less than being in a hotel for a week.

Had a great time. by gewter0243

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Vision of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.  The crew was so friendly and helpful.  There was always an activity scheduled that we could participate in.  The captain and his crew were just wonderful.  Our waiter (Romeo) and his assistant (Maryna) were so friendly and catered to our every need.

After dinner every evening Romeo would entertain our table with his amazing magic tricks. He deserves a great big "WOW". We had been on a similar cruise to the Western Caribbean on a different cruise line and there was just no comparison.  Well done RC!

great trip by rozw

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Vision of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

1)At Belize, felt wet towels and water would have been nice while waiting for tender to return to ship

2) On TV, felt more US cities should have been shown on weather temperature - also should be listed in both centigrade and Fahrenheit.

3) Would have like Fox News on TV

4) Felt the excursions were overpriced for the value received

The staff, service, food was outstanding, especially for the price paid.  Our waitress and room attendant could not have been any more efficient or friendly. My husband fell and scrapped his leg and arm.  He was taken to the nurse who cleaned up his "wounds" and applied bandaids.  She also gave us a few antiseptic packages and bandaids for his future use.  I was pleasantly surprised when the nurse called the following day to check up on his condition.

I will definitely go Royal Caribbean on our next cruise.

Very Little entrainment on board by msmith598

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Vision of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The overall opium by myself and my wife was that as far as the cruise went it was ok except for the fact that there was hardly any good entrainment that we have come to expect on Royal Caribbean. We are Diamond members and have taken many cruises before and were very disappointed with the quality and frequency of the events. There were two nights that we retired to our stateroom at 9 P.M. because there was just nothing going on. Also they stopped giving hair shampoo and conditioner in your stateroom on this ship which is a real pain because everyone knows how things are now traveling with the airlines and carrying liquids onboard your flight. I think this is a real stupid decision on Royal Caribbean's part really how much does it cost to provide this onboard just like they do on every other ship we have cruised with.   Also the food in the Windjammer was very, very bad. They really have to address this on this ship. The crew and the officers especially the captain were very public almost every day and were also very entraining. Overall the ship had a great appearance the crew was very friendly and attentive  but they need to correct the entrainment problem.

Winter break by johnherman77

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Vision of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

This was our first cruise and was not sure what to expect. We were pleased with the stateroom and the ship. Our first day at sea was a bit overwhelming due to the number of people trying to enjoy the pool area. Talking with other experienced cruisers a larger ship is better. Once we arrived in the first port things got much better. We had a wonderful time and the service was great. I would recommend this ship for those that want a relaxing trip and older crowd. The itinerary was excellent and excursions were great fun.
