I've always had good experiences overall on Royal Caribbean. Even though I have from time to time cruised with a different line I always come back because Royal Caribbean continues to be the best value for my travel dollar.
Embarkation
4 out of 5
My 87 year old mother needed wheelchair assistance boarding. Appearantly the ship provides help for the actual boarding but couldn't seem to find anyone.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
4 out of 5
Park Cafe was excellent. Windjammer Buffet was awesome except when serving the preformed hamburger patties. Don't know what was added or if there was any real beef in them but tasted nasty. When serving what appeared to be hand made patties the meat was great. The staff on the floor went out of their way to make sure we were well taken care of.
Onboard Activities
5 out of 5
Loved watching and participating in the activities on deck. Even took the Silver Medal in the belly flop competition.
Entertainment
5 out of 5
Went to and pretty much enjoyed every show.
Children's Programs
Did not bring children this trip. Next trip will take new grandson and you can ask me then.
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
Exceptional people on board. From what I saw the Captain has a good crew.
Ship Quality
5 out of 5
While I prefer the the openness of the promenade like on the Liberty of the Seas the Centrum on the Vision of the Seas has it's own charm.
Cabin / Stateroom
4 out of 5
Not the best room selection for those who like to retire early. Can definitely hear the late night shows in the cabin. Other than that the cabin was quite adequate for the two of us. WE pretty much view the cabin as a place to sleep, change and keep our stuff.
Ship tip
When possible use the stairs instead of the elevator if you are able. It is usually quicker.
Long, long, long, long pier. Did not partake of an excursion this trip. In the past I've taken excursions into Merida and Dzibilchaltun ruins. Loved them.
No excursion. First time docking at downtown pier. Prefer it to normal docking area. Store layout and dining choices were far superior to either Carnival's or Royal Caribbean's normal port.
Always rough. Not sure there even is a fix. I registered my mother at guest services for a wheelchair assist to get us off the ship. I was told when and where to be and that we would be taken in order of our tag number on our luggage. Others were apparantly told first come first served first served. Thank goodness we wanted to give our room steward as much time as possible and came down early. The crew member showed up with a list. We were not on it. After a conversation with him I believed he had added up. When his supervisor came and took over I went over to try to get and estimate of when we would get off as I had a 10 hour drive home. We still had not been added to the list. I was told there was one family promised next and we would go after that. As we were finishing our conversation a woman came from the elevators and started complaining immediately about getting off the ship and was given to slot right behind me even though there were at least a dozen families waiting. I know you go out of your way to make things as right as you can for as many as you can, but there has to be a limit. You have created a culture among your customers who have learned the best way to get their way is to complain. As more and more people see this this will become to norm. You most probably need to make sure everyone is told the same and put some sort of written policy in place.
I don't know if any customer service representatives from RCCL actually see reviews on here or Cruise Critic. How about going on to the Royal Caribbean website and telling them of your difficulties with embarkation and debarkation if you haven't already? https://secure.royalcaribbean.com/customersupport/contactUsOnline.do I agree with your statement about the need to for limits when it comes to customer complaints and customer services.
