Review summary

This was our first cruise and we definitely learned a lot for our next one. This ship is older and outdated but the staff makes up for it 100%. They make you feel like they are there to serve you and do everything they can for you. This ship does not have a lot of amenities at all so if you are looking for an upscale all included ship this one is not it. The pools are not very nice and there is not much to do . All in all we did enjoy it and will definitely be cruising with Royal again.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
The embarkation was fast and easy. We did not have to wait in any lines at all. We went a little closer to the later time of boarding but it was a breeze. We had to do the mandatory Muster Drill but it was quick. The only thing is, I could barely hear my guide and I had to keep asking what he was saying.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
The main dining rooms were fantastic. Our waiters were Anjel and Claudiu and they made everything great. One night my steak was not cooked all the way through and they insured that I got another one quickly and stayed to make sure it was great. I personally was not the biggest fan of the buffet dining but it was not a problem because the Aquarius dining room was always open for main meals. We also took the sushi class the second day on the ship at Izumi and this was my absolute favorite thing to do on the boat and we were able to make many new friends doing the same experience. It is definitely one thing to spend the extra money on because you got to eat the 4 rolls you made for your lunch. As for the drinks, we bought 2 of the drink packages and that was definetly the way to go. We did not have to pay a thing for any of the drinks. However, the alcoholic drinks are not included with room service.

Onboard Activities

2 out of 5
This ship was not the best for onboard activities. They did have "something" to do for everyone but a lot of them did cost money. There are only two pools and only one of them is outdoor. The indoor adult pool is way to chlorinated and gave me a headache so I did not spend much time in there at all. And the main pool is very small and mainly made for children. Hard to enjoy relaxation with a bunch of kids splashing around.

Cabin / Stateroom

We loved our room from the moment we walked in and did not want to leave it. Definitely recommend splurging the extra money for a balcony! It was nice to get some fresh air if we needed it in the morning and we got it port side so it was even better. We even ate breakfast from our balcony plenty of times.

We did not get a drink package. Bottled water is not included. Coffee, tea, lemon type drink are included. A few days into our cruise on the Freedom of the Seas, drink cards were for sale. I believe it covered 10 drinks for about $75.00. Worked out well for us. Enjoy!

Thanks Whitney... We sail on her 4-6-18. Looking forward to it. You mentioned drink package? My wife and I aren't drinkers like we used to be and RC said all drinks, water, tea, coffee were free except for sodas and alcohol. Was I told wrong?
