Review summary

Overall, this was a good "first cruise." Not too long, not too short. The ship itself was a little underwhelming because of its age and how dated it was, but nothing was in disrepair. I don't think I would go on this cruise again, though.

Embarkation

4 out of 5
They served cocktails on deck and there was music. Very nice.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Good buffet, and the main dining room had a great menu.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
We basically stuck to swimming, but the pools were very nice and not too crowded.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
Good stage shows and comedians. The nightclub area was pretty fun for dancing.

Children's Programs

3 out of 5
My brothers, who were about 13 and 17 at the time, took advantage of the arcade, but nothing much else.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Excellent service from our room steward and waiters. I have nothing but good things to say about them.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
The ship was clean and well-maintained, however the decor was very dated and in need of a refresh.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
Our cabin was a bit cramped, but that was probably because I had to share it with my two younger brothers. For the three of us, they set up one twin bed on one side of the room, and a twin with an upper bunk on the other side. I think having the bunks out makes things feel smaller. But we didn't spend much time in the stateroom anyway.

Ship tip

This ship is pretty old, so I would opt for one of those new giant ships that Royal Caribbean has going now.

Ports of call

San Pedro (Los Angeles), California

3 out of 5
We spent some time at the beach but not much else to do.

Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

4 out of 5
We went on a glass-bottom boat and saw fish swimming below us, and were able to sail past those arches in the water. Very cool! There was also what seemed like a military presence in Cabo, so that was something. Overall, I'd like to visit this port again.

Mazatlan, Mexico

3 out of 5
I remember this place having a lot of shopping and not much else.

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico

4 out of 5
There were nice buildings to look at and weird statues.

Disembarkation

4 out of 5
Pretty smooth disembarkation. We drove to San Pedro for this cruise, so once we were off the ship, we got in the car and drove home.

It’s all about ambiance. 😉

And the decor affects your cruise how?

jennie86    6 years ago

Dated based on interior design trends that are recent versus out of the 1990s.

That's what I'm curious about if this is the only cruise ship you've been on?

Dated? What are you basing that remark on?
