Review summary

I choose this cruise for the potential of seeing great fall foliage colors. October 1 was a little early for the fall foliage this year. The October 11 cruise will be much better as the last couple days the leaves started to change color. Cruising has become so much more commercial in that every where you turn on board there is a place wanting your money.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
The embarkation went very smoothly. I was on board within 45 minutes of my arrival at the pier.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
The food on-board was nothing special. In fact, there were several nights that nothing on the menu really interested me. The menu had I believe 5 constant items that were always on the menu. It also had several added cost items such as steak and lobster. In past cruises, I found most nights difficult to make a selection because everything looked so good on the menu. I assume it is due to the push to sell the specialty restaurants products.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
I do not participate in the on board activities organized by the staff. I like to do my own thing which is mostly relax and read a book.

Entertainment

I did not attend in any of the entertain.

Children's Programs

I have no children.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
The service on board was very good. The staff was friendly and readily available to assist when asked.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
The ship is very nice but shows her age a bit. Areas like the stairs by the pool going up to deck 10 showed wear and tear. The steps did not match and a few were well worn. To get to the forward section of deck 10 you had to climb the stairs by the pool. If you take the elevator to the forward section of deck 10 there is no exit outside. This section of deck 10 is the kids area.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
The cabin was a little dated but otherwise nice. In fact, this cabin had a lot more storage than any cabin inside or outside out my 18 cruises. My only complaint is that it is difficult to get in and out of the bed. The room is just a little too small for the bed. to get to either side you must squeeze by either a chair or a cabinet with a wide panel television sticking out. The bathroom was also a little small. Their is practically no room for an average size person to sit on the toilet with your back to the seat. You have to accommodate a wall by sitting sideways. The television on this ship has not been upgraded. You can not check your on board spending, check out your photographs or order room service through the television, as on other ships. The options for television entertainment were also very limited in that the limited shows were repeated every day throughout the cruise.

Ship tip

Deck 7 seems to be the best deck for selecting a cabin. You have cabin above and below your cabin which helps to keep the noise down. Forward on deck 8 you are under the Windjammer Buffet. Mid ship on deck 8 you are under the pool and deck chairs. Deck 4 - 6 mid ship have a lot of activity all day and all night.

Ports of call

Cape Liberty (Bayonne), New Jersey Did not visit port

I boarded the ship after arriving at the airport. I did not have time to explore the port.

Portland, Maine

4 out of 5
The port was very nice. The only negative was having to go through another security check point like at the airport with the TSA.

Rockland, Maine

5 out of 5
The port was very nice. I did a tour of Camden and the local winery which was harvesting grapes when we arrived. The tour provided each guest with five wines to taste.

Bar Harbor, Maine

5 out of 5
The town and the local scenery was beautiful.

Halifax, Nova Scotia

5 out of 5
Wonderful port and enjoyable to walk around.

Sydney, Nova Scotia

5 out of 5
The boardwalk along the bay was wonderful to walk. From the ship you could walk to downtown. The walk from the ship to downtown is very easy. Just plan to use the board walk to return to the ship as the town slopes downhill to the boardwalk.

Corner Brook, Newfoundland Did not visit port

IIt rained pretty much the entire day. There was no shuttle to town and the walk appeared to be about 15 to 20 minutes.

Quebec City, Quebec

5 out of 5
Beautiful city with an old world charm and feeling. There must be something for just about anyone to want to visit and see.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
On disembarkation, the luggage was laid out in groups easy to identify quickly. Exiting through customs went very quickly. The buses for airport transfers were lined up and ready to go.

Not only cruising ports want your money, but every store, business, and panhandler in the world too. Although the colors were not vivid, hope you enjoyed the rest of the cruise.
