Review summary

Overall, the cruise and excursions were great just a few issues. I would have had an even better time if I had my luggage. Worrying if or when I might get my luggage and not having the correct clothes, no makeup or my own toiletries put a damper on it. Still think Viking should compensate more for the issue.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
We paid the extra money to have Viking transfer us from the airport to the port so no issues getting to the correct port location. We were a little early to checkin, but they had coffee, water, juice, and some breakfast snacks while we waited.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
Buffet was excellent! Had a lot of different types of food, but also options for gluten free and vegetarians. Guest services even called me on our first day to ask if I wanted a menu each day so I could choose my gluten free food if I wanted them to make it. Speciality restaurants were both great. Didn’t get to try the Main dining room as my luggage was very delayed and I didn’t have enough of the correct attire to go to it.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
There was a nice little sports deck area that had a little putt putt green area, shuffle board, corn hole toss. They also had some games (scrabble, checkers, etc) that you could play and some digital touch screens where you could play blackjack and other games with friends. There were 2 pools and 2 hot tubs as well. The pools and hot tubs were never crazy busy which was nice.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
Viking vocalists we’re amazing, the band was good as well. Entertainment was more geared to the 60-70s age group which was the predominant age group on the cruise. Wold have liked to hear some more recent music.

Children's Programs

No children are allowed on the cruise. It’s adults only.

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
The waiters, room stewards, bartenders were all very nice and accommodating. Most of guest services was also nice, except for one person,Corinne, who was not very nice or helpful when I was trying to get my “delayed” luggage. It was our 3rd day on the cruise and I knew my luggage was in Florence airport. I asked if I could have some one take me to the airport or someone from Viking go there because the phone calls by Viking to lost and found at the airport was not working. Lost and Found kept telling Viking guest services they didn’t have my luggage. That day I had also received a text stating my luggage was getting on a flight to Paris and then Marseille which was our next stop after Monaco. I wanted to get my luggage while it was still in the Florence airport. Corinne told me to just let Rachel handle it and don’t get so upset. That made me more angry. Needless to say, I didn’t get my luggage till the last day of our cruise. Viking did give me a toiletries kit and did my laundry each day and compensated with only $150. Flights were booked by Viking.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Ship never felt crowded and was always clean.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Cabin had a king size bed, a sitting area, a desk, and a veranda to sit outside. The bathroom floor was heated and had a nice size shower.

Be ready to relax!

Ports of call

Civitavecchia (Rome), Italy Did not visit port

Flew in but didn’t get to visit

Livorno (Florence & Pisa), Italy

5 out of 5
Viking had a shuttle from the port to downtown Livorno. We walked around a little. It had a great outdoor market area and other dept stores. We went on the included Pisa tour which was great. Guide was very informative! The second day in Livorno we did a paid excursion to San Gimiganano and then wine tasting. Both sites were amazing!

Monte Carlo, Monaco

5 out of 5
It was beautiful! We only did the included excursion which took us around the prince’s castle, but had some time on our own as well. Didn’t get to visit the casino, though.

Marseille (Provence), France

2 out of 5
Marseille was very dirty and the traffic was crazy. We did a paid excursion and due to some miscommunication between Viking and the tour guide we started 20 min late and the the traffic was so bad that it took an hour to get out of Marseille. Needless to say the wine tasting was very rushed. It was more like shots of wine and then we had 7 min to buy what we wanted before getting back on the bus to go to another rushed site Le Castellet. Le Castellet was pretty interesting but we really only had about 20-30min to see it.

SETE (MONTPELLIER), FRANCE

5 out of 5
Another great port! Walked around Sete and they have an amazing outdoor and indoor market. Also did a paid excursion to see the older part of Sete and then Vermouth tasting. Learning about the vermouth production was interesting.

Barcelona, Spain

5 out of 5
Beautiful port and city. Only did the included excursion, but it hit some of the good sites one being La Sagrada Familia. Had some free time and so we hit a wine bar that was great!

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Viking had disembarkation well planned and times were based on peoples flight times.
