Wonderful, knowledgeable and passionate guides on included excursions. Ship staff warm and friendly providing excellent customer service. Cabin was very comfortable. Would recommend improvement on menu variety, wifi, and frequency of double or triple docking which left balcony unusable.
We enjoyed all aspects of the cruise. Unfortunately, the weather was very cold and wet which made using the outdoor portions of the ship unusable. Toilet tissue was very rough. The food, although adequate, was disappointing and not equal to our experience on other cruises.
We were very pleased and surprised at how much we enjoyed River cruising. There was always something to view along our journey. The staff was very helpful and pleasant and available with answers to many questions. Our dining experiences were beyond our expectations and always presented with a smile. Our cabin was more than adequate with plenty of storage space. All in all a great experience with Viking. We look forward to our next Viking cruise.
Most of the passengers were 55+ yo, which we wanted. No children. Staff treats us like Royalty. Food was fabulous. Highly trained Chefs.. Waiters would get you what ever you wanted on menu. Cooked to perfection.
Program Director knew about all sites and ports. Gave preday talks about what to see. You could go off on your own for museums. Trip guides at ports were residents thar talked about history of their towns. Had a Fantastic time. We are pkanning our next Viking trip soon.
The Hermod ship is very nice, the crew is excellent and seems to go beyond the call of duty to give a great service experience. The problems is the Cons outweigh the Pros. Areas that need improvement: Food quality, menu choices, this boat sat in ports way to much, you need more cruising, less hotel on water sitting. The included tours are ok, the crowd is primarily The Geritol Group, if you like young upbeat, party, laughing, energy? Don't take this cruise. France is beautiful, if you don't speak their language, good luck with that, it seems they don't favor us Yankees. Viking seems like a pretty good company, again, great Crew and Staff. Their Hotel selection before in Paris and After in Neice SUCKS!!! Not worth it, book your own hotel. You pre pay and book with Viking, they tell you how awesome it's going to be, you get to the LeMeriden Hotel and they only let you check in on time if you up grade the room for $90 more Euros per day or wait and get a room overlooking the back parking lot and dumpster. Similar situation in Paris at the Pullman Hotel. 3 Star Hotels at best, probably 2 Stars. Air France Sucks too, fly a domestic carrier or British / Virgin. Lost our bags coming home, lousy food, rude service going, they don't like Americans. That's the vibe. Coming back was ok, cause I paid to upgrade to business class. All in all, Viking is ok, think you could do better for a $20,000 trip.
We were enjoing our Portraits of southern france on the Hermod until the last 2 days when we had to dock and could not continue. We were looking at a brick wall for 2 days from our room. We know it was not your fault you could not continue but we paid a lot of money for a balcony and nice view. Viking made no attempt to compensate use for the misfortune.
