Review summary

Disaster. Sat in the Nuremberg port for 4 nights. Nothing within walking distance. Loud ugly industrial park. Do not do this cruise, it is a bus tour.

Embarkation

1 out of 5
The locks were broken in one of our ports so we could not sail. Instead we took several hour bus tours everyday. Meanwhile our ship was parked in an industrial park with construction going on. We didn''t get to take the excursions we signed up for. It was awful. Instead of offering every customer a discount, we each had to call and broker our own deal. We were given a $5000 voucher to book another cruise within a year. We did book another cruise and then Covid occurred. We had to cancel and lost our vouchers. We had talked two other couple into taking the cruise as well, people who normally do not like cruises. They got a full refund. So they have permanently lost 6 cruisers. There are other cruise lines we will use. es

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
The staff and the food were very good.

Onboard Activities

1 out of 5
If you like shuffle board, this is the cruise for you.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
Piano player was very good and entertaining.

Service and Staff

3 out of 5
The crew knew we were lied to the entire time because the locks were shut down for months. Everyday they would lie and say we would cruise the next day. But they knew we wouldn’t.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
The ship itself was beautiful. But the port we were in was an industrial park with nothing in walking distance. Spent 4 nights looking and listening to cranes.

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
Very clean and comfortable.

Ship tip

We had to call and negotiate a refund voucher after we got home. We had to book a future cruise in the next year, which we did. When we had to cancel because of Covid they would not let us have the voucher back. They would rather lose 6 cruisers than give us our voucher back. The six of us will never use Viking again.

Sounds like you were hit by some bad luck on that one, so sorry.

Thanks for the review. Typically Viking is one of the higher rated river cruise companies. Good to know how they handled this situation. I have not been on one yet. I do know they are more sightseeing related compared to ocean cruises. I tend to like a lot of sea days on a cruise.

A river cruise is very possible dawg... Thanks for the point out. Hope no offense to sandra

It's certainly a river cruise which is very different from ocean cruises in many ways. Still, the itinerary is fascinating. It's a shame that the end of this story is not happy.
