Review summary

This cruise was a back-to-back and we had sailed on the ship on a 9-day Mediterranean circuit. However, the ship was charted for 5 days before sailing from Barcelona to Miami. This meant spending 5 wonderful days in Spain (we went to Madrid and Segovia). Royal Caribbean arranged for those 150 pax who were doing the b-to-b to leave luggage in storage that reappeared in our rooms upon reboarding. Brilliant idea. Kudos.

Embarkation

Expedited check in where all passport photos and copies where electronic made boarding a 6000 pax ship a breeze

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
The larger ships have more dining options. On this sailing some of the specialty restaurants were more expensive that what I have seen in Caribbean service, but that may have been due to a higher priced European service

Onboard Activities

Entertainment

5 out of 5
Broadway show Hairspray was excellent as Flight, the ice skating shows and aqua shows were outstanding as well

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Royal Caribbean always nails service

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Brand new ship, with a Central Park, Aft Boardwalk, and adult Solarium area. Unfortunately for a maiden voyage, 4500 of the 6000 passengers were frequent cruisers with high status so the venues were quite crowded. Clearly no designed for that

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
I loved the balcony room, the AC/heat worked perfectly, the balcony doors easy to open an close, and the shower is bigger in these bathrooms

Ship tip

Make your excursions, entertainment and specialty dining reservations early. They fill up

Ports of call

Barcelona, Spain

5 out of 5

Malaga, Spain

5 out of 5
It poured rain but still could not hide the beauty of the city. Sadly all excursions to Cordoba and Granada were also soaked

Port Canaveral, Florida

3 out of 5
This port was not in the original activity. It was added to reduce to load on the brand new terminal in Miami. The ship, coming to US waters for the first time, also had to undergo more stringent US Coast Guard checks. Port Canaveral is not a place to visit, but is a good place to start and end a cruise

Miami, Florida Did not visit port

All we did was take a shuttle to the airport.

Disembarkation

3 out of 5
This was the first time an Oasis class cruise ship ever disembarked at Royal's brand new terminal. Everything was seamless until you walked out the terminal exit. Mayhem and congestion for the buses, the taxi queue was chaotic. Things did not flow well.
