Some good Some bad!!! by dorothylindsay

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Star Princess / Destination: Hawaii

Just to many Sea Days for us the weather was not great, bad time of year I guess.. Dinning area and food was good however the anytime dining did not work had to wait to long to eat and missed some of the shows, The head waiter was of no help All other employees were awesome.. The buffet was lacking.. Drinks should be a resonable price not over priced.. enjoy the shows.

hawaii cruise by dutchman22

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Star Princess / Destination: Hawaii

the cruise was very pleasant, our cabin steward was extremely good to  us . Always a clean cabin and very kind and polite.

The buffett was ok but would have liked to seen more food that accomodates people with  tastes for more subtle foods. Such as not so much fish.

The formal dinning area lines were terribly long and because of clydes disability we were unable to get into that dinning area.

We were very disappointed that we could not get to the last island due to rough waters. We understand but like alot of other people we were refunded

$2.00 .

It was our first cruise and was a good experience but just as a suggestion, we would have like to known  about how the credit card worked and all the tips taken out automatically before we booked.  this is information alot of people would like. Some people need to budget that in with their vacation funds.

Good Cruise by travelingpair

Ship: Star Princess / Destination: Hawaii

Great Captain -- lots of interaction with passengers.  Enjoyed his daily talks about the sea and weather. Excellent Room Steward, dinner Waiter and Ass't. Waiter.  Filled out commendation cards onboard ship for all three of these employees.  Good Cruise Director.  Enjoyed his port talks.  Entertainment was OK for the most part.  The Ass't. Cruise Director was very funny -- great personality. The Princess singers and dancers are always enjoyable.

We have always had late traditional seating, but we are changing to open seating our next cruise.  We find we are missing too many activities that take place between 7-9:30 p.m. each nite.  We notice that others must feel the same way because on this cruise and our last Princess cruise (Sept. 2013), the dining room was fairly empty at 8:00 p.m.

We only took two excursions since this was our 3rd visit to Hawaii.  We took the Atlantis Submarine excursion and the Fern grotto/luau run by the Smith family.  Both were costly, but we feel we got our monies worth.

We have no complaints! Our balcony room was nice, our steward was efficient, the food was really good. The entertainment we chose to see was good. The first time we have had the pleasure of cruising with Star Princess and we enjoyed our 15 day cruise.

GREAT CREW!!! by WaynesCC

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Star Princess / Destination: Hawaii

The crew on this ship is the best we've ever experienced.  They were so attentive and cordial to all and at our disposal at all times.  The food was average at best.  The buffet reflected "leftovers" at lunch from the previous nights dinners.  Not very appetizing.  The diningroom meals were average as well ... well presented but little real flavor or taste.  Going to the "speciality restaurant, Crowne Grille" was a BIG disappointment.  We have dined at this restaurant on the Emerald and Ruby Princess ships and were very happy with our meals - on the Star the steaks were terrible - out of four filet mignons at our table, 3 were sent back!  Even cooked medium rare, the were DRY with no flavor.  The staterooms appear smaller than other ships (perhaps because its a refurbished ship) -- the bathroom was a joke --- the smallest ever but our balcony was very spacious.   Perhaps the worst part of the trip was the "tendering boats" that took us to port.  We were treated like cattle and had to wait 45 minutes to board and the same on the return, standing in line the entire time.  It was very hot and uncomfortable.  This difinitely needs improvement.  The fact that we couldn't go to Pearl Harbor (the biggest reason we were going th Hawaii) was a MAJOR disappointment but not Princess' fault.  The "royality" in Washington is responsble for that - we felt very sorry for the 90 yr old WWII vet in a wheelchair that took the cruise specifically to see Pearl Harbor.  A real shame!

To end the cruise I have to say that disembarking was a horrible experience.  The port of San Pedro has to have the absolute WORST organization of any port we've been to.  Getting our luggage and trying to find a porter what horrendous.  We ended up dragging our luggage outside ourselves (4 senior citizens) and the asked for direction to pick up a shuttle to our hotel.  We were sent to 2 different locations - seemed like blocks apart.....the place is a mess.  Needless to say, we will NEVER cruise from there again.  Our end to the vacation left a very bad taste in our mouth......

Very relaxing time.  Food was not as good as we expected. Service at the traditional dining restaurant was wonderful but the food itself was not great.

Nice respite! by CarrieBeth

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Star Princess / Destination: U.S. - Pacific, Northwest

My stateroom and service there was pleasant.  Best breakfast on the room service menu was an egg McMuffin-like sandwich, not really a hot breakfast such as eggs, bacon, hash browns, etc as on Holland America... a  little disappointing as I didn't really want to get dressed to go out of my room for breakfast.  Food, in general, was not the quality of Holland. Had lamb roast that required a steak knife to cut and was very "chewy"; mushroom soup and cold pumpkin soup had very little flavor; pasta dishes didn't come with enough sauce and were, therefore, "pasty"; lobster and shrimp dinner came with plain white rice, thought that was an odd pairing but seafood was very good.  Guess it depends on what one's previous experience has been but just having the meals prepared for me and not having to do the dishes was great!!!  Spa was very nice as were the professionals there, very caring and very attentive to one's needs.  All in all was a rejuvenating time for me.

2 1/2 star review by Jpskiracer

Ive been spoiled because I have gone on premier cruise lines so when you go on an average line like Princess that used to be good it can be very dissapointing.  I made the best of it and still managed to gain 4 lbs.

Wolftastic time aboard Star Princess (bada-bing) by Wolfcruiser

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Star Princess / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

My husband and I had a great time on this cruise. We highly recommend this cruise to Alaska - inside passage. Cruise Director - Billy London and Deputy Cruise Director - Cris - best cruise directors ever. We went to Menderhall Glacier in Juneau and it was amazing and something to see. Service was excellent aboard the ship. The stateroom steward was amazing. Also one bar that my husband and I frequently because we liked the bartender was the Shooters Bar. We the head bartender, Angelo was great and friendly and his helper Moises was also great. The other part of this cruise that was awesome was our stop at Skagway, when we went to visit Krochel Wildlife Park. 5 stars for them.

Great Cruise by OneSteve

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Star Princess / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

The Cruise was great. Cabin was very clean, service was great. Entertainment was great. Alaska was great. But there are also negatives. It took us approx 2.5 hrs to get on the ship to register, the line was slow going. Being a Senior, it was tough on your legs, No place to sit down.We cruised on other lines and we had no problem with long lines and we had a place to sit. Princess needs a time efficiency study here. Also the buffet line, majority of the time, was long, and always we were looking for an empty table. The land tour office was open 2 hrs in the morning and 2 hrs in the evening during our dinner hour. So if you make your reservation make it before the cruise or make it after you get off the ship. Many tours independent of the Princess line are cheaper, approx 40% cheaper. Ketchikan is a beautiful little town, but we could not enjoy it due to the short stay there. Again trying to get back on the ship at Ketchikan, long lines. Need a time study here for efficiency. Victoria stop was at night and short, we didn't bother to go off the ship. If we go back to Alaska I would try another Cruise line to compare and an improved itinerary.

Great cruise. Buffet wasn't the best. by CharleneS5

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Star Princess / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

Overall, the experience was very good. Scenery was gorgeous, and the stops were very nice. However, we wish we could have spent more time in Ketchikan. 4 hours just wasn't enough. The Naturalist on board provided excellent talks and narrations during the cruise. As for the food, the dinners were very good. Lots of excellent choices. The buffet, however, was lacking. It was a very small area, so there were usually lines. The main problem with the buffet for breakfast and lunch was the selection wasn't the best.

Excellent attention to details by CruiseALotFL

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Star Princess / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

The inside cabin on this ship was larger than royal Caribbean and the older celebrity ships. Our room was always immaculate . The food was the best I've had on a cruise, with the waiter being top notch. Excellent steakhouse . Attention to cleanliness and safety were superior. Lots of fun with the entertainment professionals full of high energy and spirit. Will definitely go on a Princess cruise again !

Alaska Inside Passage Tracy Arm by avidcruisegal

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Star Princess / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

The Star Princess was very nice , clean and a beautiful ship all around. The entertainment was really good with plenty to do day and night. We have done both Glacier Bay and Tracy Arm and both are spectacular. Save money to do excursions in Alaska to get the most out of your trip. The ports are nice but you really need to get out on the excursions to see the real Alaska.

We DID NOT reach all ports advertised--Victoria was skipped because of ship's problems!! by smarler

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Star Princess / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

We were all (7 in my family group) excited about viewing the beautiful gardens of Victoria and the City. We all had excursions planned and purchased. As we approached we could see two cruise ships already in the port. BUT NOT US--problems with the ship not being in able (poor repair, competent??) to make the turn into port. VERY DISSAPOINTING--little explanation, no refund on the cruise purchase mentioned. TOO BAD passengers!!

Princess Cruises is our best choice for cruise. Thanks. by ChristinaWat

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Star Princess / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

We enjoyed this Crusise Star, compared with the golden princess , no matter the service , food and the program is much better than golden princess. The waiter and his assistant are excellent. They have very good memories about what the customer need . Before we show up , all the items already put on the table. Rhonais the best clearning lady , we have some small issue at my room. She fixed by herself right away, no need to wait for the maintance department to do it.
