Okay cruise by cruisemama63121

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Star Princess / Destination: Mexico

I booked a Princess cruise because they are more expensive than Norwegian and Carnival and I wanted to see if they are an "upgrade".  While they don't do towel sculptures, the stateroom service was top notch.

The food was very good.  Entertainment was just so, so.  Disembarkation was tops- very fast!

The ship's staff was great in all ways.

Great time by tommartinez1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Star Princess / Destination: Mexico

I had a few hiccups with the itinerary after we got over the hump it was a wonderful cruise I would highly recommend this cruise Princess Cruises always treats you right. One of the good things about Princess if there is a problem they will do everything in their power to correct it I really enjoy cruising the princess lines. The cruise agent was trying to fix the problems I'm sure she will get in touch with me  in case of future problems

First Princess Cruise by paul254

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Star Princess / Destination: Coastal - West Coast

This was our first Princess Cruise, it was a little disappointing since we had such high expectations of Princess as a cruise line.

The food was good. Service over all was great. The hostess at the Capri Dining Room was a bit abrupt the first night. There was a 45 minute wait for seating which we'd never experienced on a cruise with anytime dining

Disappointing for Princess by wgh958

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Star Princess / Destination: Coastal - West Coast

We have high expectations for Princess and this cruise did not live up.  Food was disappointing, it seemed we had what was left after the Alaskan cruises, no lobster, many things cold with no taste, some items over salted.  Duty free liquor was wiped out with over 50% of listed stock not available.  Bartenders were making obvious short pours.  Muster drill took over an hour because recordings did not work.  Disembarking took over 90 minutes after we got off the ship to get through immigration.  On the plus side, the shows were fantastic.  Victory was a nice port to visit but the 6 hours was too short.

Ready to sail again. by 1779d

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Star Princess / Destination: Hawaii

Great way to relaxed and enjoy the different activities for the first 5 days. When you get to the Islands you are ready to go. There was enough activities to do what ever you wanted. Learning about the history of Hawaii and the islands help when you got. there. The staff on the ship where friendly and helpful. The food in the dining room and lido deck was excellent. We had great waiters, and our room steward was great. Great entertainment.

Getting away from all the noise, work, people, phone, neighbors' dogs and responsibilities to relax. by bdcagain

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Star Princess / Destination: Hawaii

No early wake ups, no traffic to deal with, no work load stress, no meal planning, no dishes to do, and you don't even have to make up the bed for 15 days.  Princess Star had the best service we have ever experienced.  Five days to get there was awesome in getting into vacation mode.  Five days of islands to enjoy went so fast we wished we had planned a little better to see more, but the beauty of these islands is everything we hoped for.  We had dinner every day with the same six other guest which we became close to as we got to enjoy them and their activities shared daily. Five days coming home was not as nice and we and many others became ill on board.  I believe 15 days is very much needed to come back new, refreshed, satisfied, and spoiled.

Great Tour, fall is great by dtbutler

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Star Princess / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

Land and sea is the way to go to see as much as you can. Fall was great with all the color and no black flies or mosquitoes. All the attention to detail with luggage being in rooms ahead of us, room steward assistance, food was great, side tours were excellent, Captain Cook hotel in Anchorage was awesome. In talking to many other passengers Princess is top of the line.

Spectacular Vacation by karolndavid

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Star Princess / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

This was a spectacular cruise and adventure in Alaska.  We were very pleased with the ship, the food, most of the entertainment and the service.  The route through the glaciers was the best.  We were especially excited about the close proximity of this large ship to the glaciers and the time each side of the boat got to spend watching them. Also, the National Park Ranger and other commentaries on area were great as well as sightings on whales and other animals.  We were on time to every port and got a lot of time in the 3 ports. Also, everything on the boat was timely.  We hope to return again.

Family Trip to Alaska by cbcgug

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Star Princess / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

There were 19 of us on the trip and the boat acommodated us perfectly. We enjoyed the casino, bingo and all of the excursions. The crew was very friendly and helpful when needed.  We had the late seating at dinner and because of the large number of us we were always one of the last groups to finish so we were not able to make the night shows.  We were all surprised that the food was very mediocre.  Breakfast was the best meal of the day because of all the choices.  We all ate a lot of pizza on the trip because the lunches were not very good.  Dinner was fine, nothing wonderful.  There was certainly plenty of food available for us, we just were all just surprised that it wasn't better.

Excursions are essential! by cruisingjodi

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Star Princess / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

The towns visited are very small with little other than tourist shops, but that's not what you go to Alaska for. All of our excursions were wonderful, I highly recommend that you book an excursion in every port.

the cruise and land excursion was wonderful. by wea1800

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Star Princess / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

I would recommend this trip for anyone.  It was marvelous!  the beauty and how organized it was. a wonderful vacation.!!!!!!HappyLoveLove This trip was so organized. The lodges were wonderful and the hotel Captain Cook was beautiful. The excursions that were included with the cruise were wonderful.  The bus driver's that gave us a wonderful guide tour along the way did a great job. This trip was amazing!!!!! I am working on my pictures now and hope to have them all organized soon. The excursions that we booked ourselves were wonderful. They kept us busy.  I only had maybe 2 things that I would recommend.  !.  When we set our bags out at the lodge. If we could set them out the night before instead of early in the a.m..  and when we disembarked the ship that we could have left a little bit earlier because when we got to the Van Cauver airport we had 10 minutes before our 45 min. cutoff for our return flight. but other than that I would strongly recommend this cruise.

trip of a lifetime! by farmer1224

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Star Princess / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

Excellent cruise!  The route included good port stops, and excellent glacier views. Staff was great - as was the food in the dining rooms.

I would have liked some bar stool type chairs on the upper level rails to relieve the hours I spent standing and watching the scenery....low, lounging deck chairs didn't allow the viewing.

Wonderful Service and Great Itinerary!  Cruising Glacier bay was beautiful.  Plenty to do in every port, but don't plan on picking up any last minute essentials in Whittier.  Overall great experience!

Escorted tour of Alaska by mamabear123315

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Star Princess / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

We enjoyed the Star Princess for our 7 day cruise of the Inside Passage and found this ship to be very friendly and the food was excellent!

The land tour we took was an 8 day escorted tour to 4 of the Princess Lodges (Kenai, Copper River, Denali and Fairbanks) and all the surrounding area. This by far exceeding our expectations for this tour. We traveled by bus, catamaran, train to the various places staying 2 days at each lodge. The travel days were long as Alaska is a huge state to cover and then the tour day was filled with whatever you chose to do on your own. Some tours are included in the escorted tour in Denali and Fairbanks. We added the Kenai Peninsula Wilderness tour for Kenai and it was by far the most outstanding day we had and money well spent! We added a short rafting trip in Copper River which was ok but not our favorite.

The vouchers you are given for your meals were great! You basicly order whatever you want from the menu including the Alaskan crab legs which were awesome! we felt you got your moneys worth from food alone and lodging on the escorted tour.

Our tour guide Lori Butler was the best ever and she was with us every moment of the trip except when off on our own. She handled all the arrangements ahead and had each days itinerary all set for us as far as room keys, vouchers, and times to meet. You have lots of independence but travel days we were a group on a bus. She shared so much about Alaska as we traveled the many miles and often made unscheduled stops to see something of interest.

This is a very exhausting trip as you do a lot in 8 days of which 4 days you travel all day so be prepared to rest when you get home or do the cruise on the second week as we did the cruise first.

We felt this trip was worth every penny spent!

Pat

50 anniversary star princess cruise by cabkthomson

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Star Princess / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

wonderful time took our two kids and their mates my son went to the casino for texas hold em school but he was the only one to show up and the guy said the table was "broken" and wouldn't get fixed til we got to vancouver. I asked the son if he got a promo prize since it was there 50th anniversery but no such thing. guess it didn't surprise me though how much table do you need to play poker ?  I don't remember any other cruise ships having as streaky of windows and wished they would have been clearer to look out. I was thinking they might have been better since they were in dry dock in december of 2014 but also don't know the cleaning schedule. as usual though fabulous food and shows all in all a great time.  We were viewing the Margaret glacier and the boat pulls up and stops for at least an hour and spins around so everybody can view it, amazing sights that you cannot appreciate with just looking at the movie clip but the video will help you remember what you saw

Off The Beaten Path inland then southbound cruise by torirn

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Star Princess / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

Cruise was great and cruising after the land portion highly recommended. Land portion is "busy", moving to different location every other night, etc. Cruise is then a nice relaxing end. Only complaint about the Star was an occasional sewage odor. Noticed in different areas of the ship and wouldn't last real long, but quite off-putting. Princess Wilderness Lodges are nice and staffs are very friendly and trying hard to please. BUT the food service is horrid! Long lines, looooong waits for food - which is a real problem when you have an excursion to catch! Excuse we got a couple of times was "sorry, kitchen is overwhelmed". REALLY?? For breakfast, when you have the schedule of how many folks are heading for excursions right there on your computer? You can't figure out to staff for a busy breakfast run? Granted this is early in the season, but this ain't Princess's first rodeo. They should know exactly how to staff by now! Very frustrating. We spoke to several folks on their first cruise and they were very upset. We assured them that once on the ship they'd be happy. But if this had been our first experience with Princess, it would probably have been our last. But to end on a positive note, the nightly flag ceremony and veteran recognition at the Copper River Lodge was lovely and very appreciated by my husband and I (both vets).

Nature and Relaxation by jennysherry83

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Star Princess / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

Awesome trip, you get to see beautiful Alaska and Glaciers... Definitely more elderly people on cruiseship, but needs to have a few more daily events for younger people, especially for sea days. Unortunately had food poisoning in our group, though they are very cautios and trying to keep everything fresh.

Overall great experience though.

Wasted time, so-so food by Reptar

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Star Princess / Destination: Coastal - West Coast

It takes so long to get on the boat but at least that seemed organized. Getting off the boat was very disorganized, no staff around to ask questions, they had little information when we did find someone. Food was so-so and I am not a picky eater at all. We spent $25 per person extra and $15 corkage fee to dine at one of the "premium" restaurants-Sabatinis. It was slightly better than the meal we had the night before in the regular restaurant, not worth the price at all. Sailing under the Golden Gate Bridge was amazing. The last day is spent lugging your bags around , waiting to get off the boat. Not relaxing at all. You can store your luggage in a room until 2 pm but the line was really long. The service  staff were really friendly and gracious. Our room was more than adequate
