Review summary

A good time, although I found 16 days to be a bit too long; many days at sea become boring

Embarkation

5 out of 5
I joined at San Antonio, apparently missing the original rush at Buenos Aires. There was no queue

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
I enjoyed a great seafood mel at the Crab Shack, an option only available twide during the cruise. Otherwise I skipped the dining rooms and selected my own at the Horizon Court buffet. The food there was amazingly and consistently good.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
I joined the trivia sessions twice daily, which is something I enjoy. The fun stuff conducted by the entertainment staff was also very good.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
The one stage show I watched was first class

Children's Programs

Travelling solo

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
The service was personal and efficient

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
She's an old ship, albeit recently refurbished, and is not up to the standard of the newer ships. Still comfortable and well-appointed

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
Satisfactory - standard stateroom

Ship tip

Buy coffee cards pre-embarkation

Ports of call

General San Martin (Pisco), Peru

5 out of 5
Took a Ballestas Islands boat tour. Book online or ashore - much cheaper than the shipboard price

Callao (Lima), Peru

4 out of 5
Shore excusions came with a local crime warning, but I hired a cab for a city tour.

Puntarenas, Costa Rica

5 out of 5
Great country. I took a river cruise and then a stroll around.

San Juan Del Sur, Nicaragua

3 out of 5
Emphasis on tourists at the port. Nothing much else to see in the vicinity; in hindsight I should have taken a cab to thr volcano

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico

4 out of 5
Half-day visit only. Again I hired a cab for a city tour

San Pedro (Los Angeles), California

3 out of 5
Temporary processing centre at Berth 46. Then a $100 cab fare to my hotel in LA

Disembarkation

3 out of 5
Routine. A wait in the queue, then speedy processing
