Review summary

Highly recommend both land and cruise. Pictures, do not do the scenery justice. We ate at Olivers in Shagwag, the king crab legs were the best I've ever had! Enjoyed hanging out at the Red Inion Saloon.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

Specialty restaurants were very good. Buffet rated good, equal as other cruises. Main dining rooms not as impressive as other cruises. Presentation and cleanliness very good. Desserts not so impressive.

Onboard Activities

Too chilly for pool.

Entertainment

Magician excellent, musical show very good. Most musicians very good.

Children's Programs

We had no children with us

Service and Staff

Buffet folks very accommodating. Most Bartenders lacked personality in engaging with cruisers. One young lady that was serving at one of the bars did not understand English enough to ever get our drink order correct. Needless to say we didn't have a second round. Young lady at ice cream bar looked at acted as if she didn't want to be there. For the most part our needs were met.

Ship Quality

Cabin / Stateroom

Commode was stained. I cleaned with some elbow grease and removed some of the stains. While it wasn't badly stained, I was disappointed to have any stains at all. Indicates care and inspection neglected.

Ship tip

I think my expectations were too high. I've cruised on a few different ship lines and I've heard 'Princess was a step above'. I didn't find that to be the case. Since my previous cruises were to different locations and different climates, I find it difficult to compare activities on the ship. That being said, I certainly would not rule out Princess for future cruises. I also heard 2 different people at different times saying they had been on other Princess Cruise ships that were considerably better than Star Princess.

I hope to return to Alaska next summer on one of the Princess ships. Skagway is a neat little town. I will have to try Olivers. Thanks.
