Review summary

My overall impression of the Spectrum, is that it is what it is, and out of 5 I would rate it a 4. But we probably won't see it in Europe or the US any time soon.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Quick and easy

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
Among the best I've experienced

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
Pool decks etc where the same as all Royal ships, which in my opinion very good. Didn't do the rock wall or any flowrider etc, so unable to comment. One thing though, is that the fitness centre was rather small.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
The entertainment was well below par, but we put this down to the fact that the ship was designed and targeted at the Far Eastern market. So consequently the casino was huge, with High Roller rooms ready to be used when they reached China.

Children's Programs

No kids with us.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
I found all the staff to be excellent and I could feel a good atmosphere among them.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
All the areas I saw where clean and well maintained. Although I felt that the two main decks 4 and 5 where the bars shops etc, didn't flow, there seemed to be too many blank areas, and angles. Not the usual natural transition you normally expect on Royal ships. But over the last few years that seems to be the way the design of the ships is going.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
The cabin was spotlessly clean, I was going to say and well maintained, but the ship was brand new and it was the inaugural cruise, so the cabin showed no wear and tear at all lol. The size was good and storage was very good compared to some other "new" ships. The balcony was good with space for a small table and two chairs with separate foot stools.

Ship tip

If you want a quick and quite breakfast, instead of the mayhem in the Windjammer (although the food is great) try the café in the 270 lounge.

Ports of call

Barcelona, Spain

5 out of 5
Fab city so much to see.

Civitavecchia (Rome), Italy

4 out of 5
Didn't do an excursion, but Civi is nice to walk around anyway.

Naples, Italy

4 out of 5
As with Barca so much to see.

Piraeus (Athens), Greece

3 out of 5
If you don't visit Athens, there's not much in Piraeus.

Suez Canal Transit

5 out of 5
Always love Suez so peaceful.

Aqaba (Petra), Jordan

3 out of 5
Again if you don't do the Petra etc trips, it's just another Arab town, but there are some interesting things, old town ruins, mosques etc to see.

Dubai, U.A.E.

5 out of 5
Dubai is amazing, from bur Dubai with its souks, museum and the Creek, up to the Las Vegas style of the city with its malls and skyscrapers, Burj Khalifa (tallest building in the world) to the famous Palm with its million pound houses, it's definitely a place to put on your bucket list.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Quick and easy.
