Our cruise was good but hampered by two things: cancellation of both excursions and limited access to some venues (Take Five Jazz Bar & the Vista) due to exclusive use granted to a large group who were on board. We really anticipated the new jazz bar but found it open only to the exclusive group. We managed to get in on our last night and enjoyed it, but felt disappointed that we couldn’t have spent more time there.
Embarkation
5 out of 5
A complete breeze! Walked in the terminal, right up to counter that provided our Medallions and walked straight on to the ship! Couldn’t have gone smoother!
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
4 out of 5
Estrella & The Soleil Dining rooms were excellent. The food and service were very good. Alfredo’s pizza was really great as was the service there. The buffet had great service and the food was good. Lots of choices too. The Crown Grill on this ship was disappointing. We had a fabulous experience with them on the Emerald but this time, the service was poor. Despite our reservation, they let us stand waiting at the door for at least10 or 15 minutes. When we did get in, the service was slow and we were told there was a big table requiring more attention.
Onboard Activities
5 out of 5
The entertainment that we saw was very good. The Rock Opera, magician & comedian were good. Cassie Mathews Trevor Cole were very talented and relaxing to listen to. The band Static knows just how to get the party going and they did! The Voice of the Ocean was impressive and fun to participate in.
Entertainment
5 out of 5
Entertainment that was provided was very good, but somewhat sparse. With all the venues, I think more entertainment could have been offered. (See other comments)
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
Except for our experience in the Crown Grill, the staff & service was outstanding. Love the new Medallion service although it needs a few details worked out yet regarding ordering drinks. The wait staff & the steward were exceptional.
Ship Quality
5 out of 5
Cabins & balconies are smaller which is a bit of a drawback. All areas such as buffet, dining rooms and public washrooms were kept spotless. Extra washing opportunities were provided at food venues to help with sanitation. Overall, the ship was very clean.
Cabin / Stateroom
3 out of 5
The cabin & balcony are noticeably smaller than our cabin on the Emerald & Sapphire. The biggest surprise came with all the noise. The ship and patio doors creaked so loudly at night that it actually woke us up several times. We found if we cracked the patio door just a little, the noise was more manageable. Our room steward, Bernardo, was fantastic! He kept up the room up beautifully and was friendly & helpful. Princess beds are very comfortable and the shower worked very well.
Ship tip
Be sure to attend events about an hour early to ensure a seat.
Princess Cays is beautiful! I recommend taking water shoes as there is a bit of rocky terrain. The beach was great and the entertainment totally relaxing! The barbecue lunch was poor. The hotdogs were good but the burgers were burnt and the side dishes tasteless.
Disembarkation was incredibly well organized. We met in the Soleil Dining Room for 7am and were on our way on the shuttle to the airport by 7:15! Princess has really got it down to a science for embarking & disembarking! Well done!
2cruisemates - we stayed in B627 but heard similar complaints from passengers all over the ship. I guess it might take a bit of time to iron out all the “kinks.” .
Bummer on the exclusive group, hope you write Princess about it. Why the cancelled tours? Smaller rooms? Eech! Oh well, still looking forward to October.
