Review summary

Silversea provides a luxury experience onboard with spacious cabins and excellent food and beverage offerings. Their staff is attentive and eager to please. The area where I felt they could have done better on this cruise was not offering enough to make up for cancelled excursions due to the weather. We completely understand that weather conditions are not controllable and safety is the first priority. However, it would have been nice to have new excursions offered for those of us who had ours cancelled. It also would have been nice to have additional onboard activities available to help make up for the disappointments of not being able to visit planned ports.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
Overall, the food on the Silver Spirit was top notch. Kudos to room service which we used more than normal due to illness and was excellent. Special recognition also goes to Indochine which impressed our group with excellent southeast Asian food. We lived in Singapore and know when it is done well. Arts Cafe is also a favorite due to the rotating light offerings including afternoon tea items and coffee bar.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
The weather did not allow for outdoor activities on our cruise. We especially enjoyed trivia games and would have liked more of them. We made use of the card room to learn to play Mah Jong informally, but would be great to have a staff member teach classes.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
We attended two shows and thought the level of professionalism was appropriate for a cruise ship. One highlight of the entertainment was the evening that local Icelandic singers presented a pre-dinner concert. I would like to see more destination specific entertainment offered.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Our butler and cabin steward were simply the best. We also received excellent service in all of the dining and bar venues. This is an area where Silversea really shines!

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Everything was pristinely clean and well maintained.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Our cabin was very spacious and well appointed. Our cabin steward kept it spotless. We were ill during the voyage and the weather was inclement, so we spent more time in the cabin than normal and were thankful to have a comfortable place to relax.

Ship tip

Make your excursion and dining reservations as early as possible to avoid later disappointment. Also, if you are going to Iceland bring weather appropriate clothing. It is cold and wet in the summer!!!

Ports of call

Reykjavik, Iceland

Lovely town and easy to navigate. Used Silversea hotels which were very centrally located. Took the golden circle tour at the end of our cruise and it was fantastic! Highly recommend.

PATREKSFJODUR, ICELAND

3 out of 5
Beautiful remote spot but the highlight of the port was bird viewing (especially puffins) but by the time of year we arrived they had all gone. It was very disappointing and should have been known by Silversea staff so alternate excursions could have been planned.

SIGLUFJORDUR, ICELAND Did not visit port

Inclement weather kept us from docking here.

Akureyri, Iceland

We took the Jewels of the North excursion and it was wonderful! Although the weather was dreadful, the scenery at the falls, lava fields, Lake Myvatn, and the mud flats was stunning.

Husavik, Iceland

It was a charming small town and we enjoyed visiting the whale museum. However, the main reason for our visit was whale watching and our excursion was cancelled due to the weather. Very disappointing.

Seydisfjordur, Iceland

Very charming small town. We took the Chasing Waterfalls excursion which was hiking up in the mountains surrounding the town. The hike was very challenging so only those in good physical shape should participate. The scenery was absolutely stunning and well worth braving the elements.

Djupivogur, Iceland

Tiny town but lovely walk on the Black Beaches excursion.

Torshavn, Faroe Islands Did not visit port

We sailed all the way there but were told that weather conditions were too bad to enter the harbor so we had to turn around and return to Reykjavik. Very disappointing.
