Royal Princess and Mediterranean Cruise (Athens to Barcelona) by realjay1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Royal Princess / Destination: Europe - Mediterranean

I have preferred and mostly cruised Holland, but tried Princess when I realized they own Holland.  The Royal Princess is the largest ship I have been on and had more amenities than my past cruises with Holland, Costa, NCL, and Royal Caribbean.  It is geared towards English speaking guests unlike Costa, and the food, rooms, service, people and entertainment were great!

Great trip for the money by gufe710

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Royal Princess / Destination: Europe - Western Mediterranean

We enjoyed the cruise, the stops and the culture we could see from this trip. This is not a "sit back and relax" kind of itinerary. There are great ports of call, but it takes some strategic planning - or lots of extra shore excursion funds - to see each port appropriately. This is also not a "just get off the ship and walk" kind of port of call cruise. Each stop needs a game plan. But, if you're up for planning, getting out and about, seeing great sights and go-go-go, it's a great trip

The staff were helpful and kind - the food was ok, but not awesome - the entertainment had great opportunities, but you needed to be ok with kids at a 10pm show or game. Lots of kids.

It was worth the money and it was a good trip for us. Just be prepared.

My first ever cruise and... by Kachroan

Sail date: /
Ship: Royal Princess

My first ever cruise and it was fantastic. It’s great to unpack once and see so many incredible places. The crew were wonderful and even though there were 3500 guests you always seemed to be able to do things without having to wait long. The only time we had to wait was when we had to tender to get to shore. Food and service in anytime dining was excellent and there was a good variety of foods. We ate in the Horizon Court for breakfast and lunch and there was a huge choice of food. It was lovely to go to breakfast and get back and the room was tidied and bed made. It’s a good idea to take a highlighter to mark activities you want to do on the daily newsletter. It’s also a good idea to do a few stairs every day as the food is so so good and you can burn some calories off. I’ll be cruising again.

Fell short of expectations by mm2627

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Royal Princess / Destination: Europe - Mediterranean

We booked this 28 circle Mediterranean cruise in Australia some 8 months prior because of the amazing itinerary, and the promise of a seamless 28 days onboard. Three months prior to departure we were advised of an itinerary change now excluding Kusadasi because of uncertainty in Turkey, and a repeat call of Kotor was substituted in place. Understandable I guess. About 2 mobths out we were advised Malta was now out, for reasons of captains discretion. Another call at Kotor was added (total of 3 visits!), as well as Crete and Khios. We were very dissapointed as both Kusadasi and Malta were key reasons we chose this cruise. We figured the additional greek islands would be ok. A final itinerary was released, and now we were suddenly visiting Athens x 2, Sicily x 2 and Kotor by 3. Not impressed. Anyway, we booked relevant tours for each port and went in with positive and open minds. When we boarded, we received vouchers for only a handful of tours. I logged into my Princess account and my bookings were gone. In panic, I queued in the shore excursions line for 30 mins, only to be advised they only had visibility for the first 7 days, as this was a 7 day cruise! Well, we had booked 28 days. It turns out that this 28 day cruise sold to us in Australia, was sold in USA and Europe as 4 individual 7 day segments. This explains the repeat ports, but not why Princess did not advise of this in Australia. Apart from missing key ports we had originally booked for, we now had several repeat ports and a disjointed cruise experience where every 7 days we had to reconfirm excusions, obtain a new drinks package sticker and have a rotation of passengers joining. In addition, this meant repeat entertainment each week, as well as the food menu. The ship itself, the royal princess, was fantastic as were the staff, with the exception of the future cruise consultant who was rude and condescending. Most ports were great, albeit the repeat ones were a waste for us. All up we rate this experience with Princess 6/10 and will be exploring future options with other cruise lines.

Great Cruise for the Older Crowd by davidu64

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Royal Princess / Destination: Europe - Mediterranean

The Princess cruise was fine. The food was descent and the ports were good, though it would of been nice to have three days at sea instead of two. My only real issue was the lack of nightly entertainment on board. There were no big shows to see after dinner. There were some crew-run activities, but no shows like on Royal Caribbean, for example. There were a few nights of dancing, but it ended at 8pm. That being said, it was a great cruise for my elderly parents.

I was surprised at the lack of real entertainment on this cruise. The entertainment, schedule, food choices, dining, etc is the same as it has been for 30 years. It has been 7 years since I have cruised before this last cruise, and I was expecting new and creative onboard experiences, but Princess (at least on this particular cruise) has not worked very hard to update their entertainment for the younger crowd.

our first cruise, so nothing... by cowboy74

Sail date: /
Ship: Royal Princess

our first cruise, so nothing to compare with, but the Royal Princess is a fantastic ship. The crew and the staff clearly value great service which was evident in every area. Kudos to our great steward Dani. Cabin was wonderful ever day. Great cruise May 17 to May 27. Super weather and beautiful ports. Thanks to all. Hope to cruise with them in the future.

Great Service combined with Interesting Ports by cowboy74

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Royal Princess / Destination: Europe - Mediterranean

Just returned home from the ten day Med cruise a board the Royal Princess.  It was our first cruise so we don't have anything to compare it with. But the service was excellent and the crew always helpful. The ports were fun and interesting,  especially Dubrovnik and Corfu.  Good food on the ship and on shore. We did not do any of the company excursions but simply did our own thing on shore. This ship has set the bar high if we cruise again.

Worst crew and food ever! by robdag

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Royal Princess / Destination: Europe - Mediterranean

I am an elite passenger with Princess but if this had been my first cruise with them I would never go on another Princess cruise.

Crew was rude and just nasty at times.  You could go the entire meal and they would even ask if want a beverage. Once we were told "if you want some water get up and get it your self".

Food was so bad we both lost weight on the trip.  Everything was cold eggs, pasta station everything on the buffet.

Dining room service was very slow with very bland food.  No tast at all.

Roons were not cleaned--- I dropped some popcorn on the floor and it was still there the day we got off.

From the best on the Pacific world cruise to the worst on the Royal.

2017 Cruise by Princess4

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Royal Princess / Destination: Caribbean - Southern

Great Cruise, great ship and great service.   I would highly recommend this cruise.   I may be booking the same cruise again next year.   We have been on 10 other cruises, and we have loved them all, however, this was the nicest Princess ship we have been on.

Great Ship and service by CarpCruiser

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Royal Princess / Destination: Caribbean - Southern

This is the 3rd time we have been on the Royal Princess. Each time has been marked by excellent staff service, good food and wonderful accommodations. The Southern Caribbean has neat islands to visit and all the tours we took were excellent. Top of the list would go to Aruba and the ATV island tour. More fun than a barrel of monkeys.

If I had one small complaint it would be the disembarkation process. Seems disorganized, Princess could do some work there.

But a great ship and a good crew

Loved the Royal. Beautiful ship... by shannonthompson

Sail date: /
Ship: Royal Princess

Loved the Royal. Beautiful ship and staff we dealt with were all fantastic. Went with my husband to celebrate my 40th. Decided to treat ourselves to two half days in the sanctuary and it was pure bliss. I love the fact that Princess does high tea daily, and was a little sad we’d miss tea time while in the sanctuary one afternoon, but they brought the tea to me! Also love the Discovery Days at Sea. Through this we had the opportunity to go stargazing with a couple of the cruise director staff as they showed us constellations and told the Greek mythology stories that went with them. Funny and educational. Food was wonderful as always on a Princess. Recommend trying at least one a la Cart restaurant. Sabatinis is excellent. Entertainment was very good as well Only small criticism is that the photos taken on board are so expensive.

Just returned from a 10... by jmelvin

Sail date: /
Ship: Royal Princess

Just returned from a 10 day Caribbean cruise on the Royal Princess and we had a great time. All of the staff where very friendly and helpful. The ship is very well set up even if you wait sometimes for an elevator. The buffet is far better food options and the layout than other princess ships we have been on. Already looking for our next cruise with Princess. Kent

The crew, bartenders and stewards... by vbutterfly

Sail date: /
Ship: Royal Princess

The crew, bartenders and stewards especially, really made this trip exceptional for us and our children. Bartenders made-up special drink and named them after our kids during our trip. The room stewards where so patient and amazing that our kids, even the teens, wanted a picture with them! They made them excited to see what towel creation they would find when they go to their room. Can't say enough great things about the crew!
