Review summary

We didn’t do too much but lounge around, so it was nice and relaxing.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Boarding in San Francisco was the smoothest experience 20-some odd years of cruising. I don’t know if it had to do with boarding on a Tuesday or we were the only ship in port, or a combo. My taxi pulled up to the pier, dropped off my luggage, and I was on board in probably 15 minutes.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
Some of the menus were different after two years, but the wait staff were always able to help us find something enjoyable! The Horizon Court (buffet) was paired down a bit; but we did only have about half the passengers onboard.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
Truth be told, we didn’t do too many activities. We just wanted to relax. Besides, some of the things we normally did (trivia, etc) were booked during lunch or dinner times.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
The room steward was very good. He was always nearby when we needed him. Wait staff in the dining room were fantastic! We had the same table each night and lunch, so we got know each other very well, which made things so much more enjoyable!

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
This one I had to mark down a bit. While the ship is laid out very nicely and decor was bright, the almost 15-year old ship was showing its age. It could use a good dry dock and upgrades.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
I was a single in a mini-suite and it was really nice. Because of the location of the room, the balcony was larger then the standard. The rest of my party and the room next door, so we were able to open the door between and make both even larger!

Ship tip

If you are booking balcony or mini-suites, pay attention to the location for the size of the balcony.

Ports of call

Mazatlan, Mexico

4 out of 5
There was a short trolly ride to get from the ship to the cruise terminal, as it was more a commercial/industrial port. Otherwise, most of the stalls and shops right there had some pretty nice wares. It was pretty hot and humid, too.

Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

4 out of 5
Cabo has certainly grown since we were here last. Bit of a walk along the pier in the sun to the city for shopping. Also, the waters were really choppy making tendering an excursion in itself! Lol

San Diego, California

4 out of 5

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Embarkation was smooth and efficient. It’s always tough sitting around in a lounge somewhere waiting to be called, but getting off the ship and collecting luggage was easy enough.
