Review summary

Nice way to spend four days. One gets a flavor of the joys of cruising for a small price. There were fun options at each port and there are plenty of activities onboard.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
We were with our grandkids, age 12 and 10, so we ate in the buffet, pizza shop and hamburger grill, which were great for our purposes. Efficient and yet tasty food. We also visited the International Cafe in the Atrium, again good food for casual eating.

International Cafe

5 out of 5

The International Cafe provides great food for each meal time, breakfast, lunch and dinner plus tasty snacks throughout the day and evening. From tasty breakfast rolls to salads and sandwiches.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
The grandkids love the Kids Club and spent every available moment there, while we relaxed and caught up on our reading.

Entertainment

Usually we go to these, but the kids schedule made it easier to do other things.

Children's Programs

5 out of 5
Kids programs are great! My grandkids look forward to being there every cruise. The activities are varied and fun.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Top notch

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Love the layout of the ship. Everything was clean, well-maintained and comfortable.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Nice size for four people, roomy, can close off half the room for privacy while dressing. Two televisions nice for multiple viewing preferences.

Ship tip

Go Medallion cruises, makes boarding, debarking, and buying stuff quick and easy.

Ports of call

San Pedro (Los Angeles), California Did not visit port

Drove to the ship and boarded.

Catalina Island, California

5 out of 5
I like Avalon, I have been there on several occasions. This time we rented a golf cart and toured the sites around Avalon until it started to rain.

Ensenada, Mexico

4 out of 5
The port area is nice because it is not in an industrial area, it is scenic, close to shopping and there is a nice park next to the port area.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Quick and efficient

The Royal is a beautiful ship. We have sailed on her 3 times and enjoyed each one of them. Hope you continue to cruise.
