Review summary

Very worthwhile cruise that my wife and I really enjoyed. The Royal Princess is our favorite Princess ship....having been on four of their ships.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Meals in the dining room were very good overall. Food in the Horizon Court was better than other Princess ships. They have an entire aisle as part of the buffet called The Pastry Shop. A perfect touch to complete any meal. It is devoted to unbelievable desserts of all kinds. The Trident and Alfredo’s Pizza were also top notch.

Onboard Activities

2 out of 5
We were underwhelmed with very few activities for couples during the day. Most daytime activities on sea days were originating from the Lotus Spa. Hardly any daytime fun games or activities. Just one music trivia quiz only.....so unlike other Princess ships.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
Night time production shows were amazingly good. A very funny comedian had everyone laughing hysterically for his two night shows.

Service and Staff

4 out of 5

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Beautiful ship. Quite decorative and very clean throughout.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
Overall, we were very happy with our stateroom. Room steward was just average but OK. Room was comfortable and clean. However, our balcony furniture needed cleaning before one could sit on any chairs.....covered with thin layer of dust and soot like particles.

Ship tip

The excursion movie tour in Monterey was to see. You need to sign up as early as possible because it sells out quickly. Sign up for it online at least 2 months before your cruise.

Glad you enjoyed, overall. First, I'd like to point out for others, that you implied that there were fewer activities than other Princess ships, so telling you how not to be 'bored' is just nitpicking your review. You obviously know that there are usually more than were on this cruise. I wonder if they didn't have them because this was a somewhat port heavy itinerary (7 day - 4 stops and Ensenada wasn't listed), it's as if they figure most will be gone, so why bother? I know that on one of our last cruises there were plenty of activities, although a couple of times there were only 3 or 4 of us doing them. But still, at least the 4 of us had a choice to do them. Maybe they need cruise activity guidelines ;)

You must read the Princess Patters... We find so much to do all day... We are doing BTB in January.... We have been on the Dawn Princess, Crown Proncess, Emerald Princess, Caribbean Princess and in January.... Royal Princess... We have yet to be bored during ths day.

Thanks for a great review. We’re going to the Mexican Riviera in April on the Royal. This will be my third Princess ship.

Many companies like Princess and HAL might not have a lot to do during the day, but you have to look at the activities paper that's put on the bed at turn down. We took Princess..Ruby in 2013. It was nice.
