Review summary

Hello. The over all cruise was good. However we where unaware that there would be so many non English speaking people.  I'm not a prejudice person but I found the high number of rude , loud, arrogant people uncomfortable. We found that when announcements where made the English version was about 3 sentences and the Polish version was about 3 chapters.  I realize that the majority of the cruises that we take are primarily English speaking and other languages might feel the way we did with this cruise. However it would have been nice to know ahead of time so we could have made a discussion to take the cruise or not. If you are having a Gay cruise or a nude cruise you make people awear.

What i guess I'm saying is the the shoe was on the other foot this time and we where not happy about it  which I guess is our problem but we where interested in doing a South America cruise but have now lost all interest in doing it .

As I said I don't consider myself prejudice but I may have come across that was but we found it uncomfortable day after day. I hope this has been helpful

head waiter was excellent however the assistant wasn't always as attentive because she would get into confersations in Polish with other passengers and time would pass leaving the waiter to do her work as well

Attendant was ok but very little interaction and several times we had to ask for soap. Small issue . However the room was not vacuumed often or mirror cleaned. Also we had 5 life jackets and all the linen for 5 under the bed which all cut down on storage space. When we asked if we could get rid of 3 life jackets we where told no

But @Roberta40, let me understand. You haven't enjoyed your cruise and also lost interest in South America because south Americans doesn't speak english?

The problem with Funchal was actually also related to infrastructure. The Rhapsody was scheduled to a cay that is very subject to sea conditions. So, even if the conditions weren't terrible, in this cay, specifically, she was not able to dock.

How rough were the seas? Trying to be objective, did they had to ask passengers to go to their cabins for safety reasons? I always cruised in Brazil coast, so the worst I had was Santa Catarina's coast (and once they did shut down everything and asked all passengers to go or stay in their cabins). Curfew? In Portuguese is "toque de recolher", not sure if curfew is only for teens... :)

My husband and I were on this Barcelona to Rio de Janeiro repositioning cruise. We are Americans who live in Brazil, and like half of the passengers (about 900 out of 1900!) we were on our way home. Brazilians are indeed very exuberant people. There were three "official" languages on board, English first, then Portuguese (not Polish) and finally German (not Polish). I'm not sure I understand why this was a problem for the reviewer, since after the English announcement she didn't have to listen anymore.

And to clarify, because some other reviews I've read on this site are confused about this, Tenerife was never on the itinerary. We stopped at Las Palmas, in the Canary Islands. There was a scheduled stop at Funchal, Madeira that was aborted due to rough seas.
