Rhapsody of the Seas

7 Night Alaska Sawyer Glacier (Vancouver To Seattle)

Sail date: May 13, 2011

Ship: Rhapsody of the Seas

Cabin type: Inside

Traveled as: Family (older children)

Reviewed: 13 years ago

Review summary

The Rhapsody is smaller, old ship which is showing its age. The hallway near our interior room smelled like sewage several days during the cruise. The main staff was friendly but some barely spoke English. The excursions were too expensive for what they covered. The weather in early May was perfect but it was too early to see the whales. There were mostly older guests on the ship (50+) but just a few kids.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
The food was good although potions in the main dining room were small. It was difficult to find a table for buffet dining, especially for breakfast.

Entertainment

1 out of 5
The professional entertainers on the ship were not that good and seem more amateur. Even the comedians showcased were just OK. The games / shows that included guests were much more entertaining.

Service and Staff

3 out of 5
The staff were mostly friendly, better in the main dining room. Some of the staff onboard did not speak or understand English very well.

Ship Quality

1 out of 5
The ship was small and the public areas showed it. It was relatively clean and the layout was good.

Cabin / Stateroom

1 out of 5
Out "large" interior stateroom was anything but large. There was not much room to store the luggage and the beds were too firm. It was hard to keep a constant temperature in the room. Either too warm or too cold.

Ports of call

Skagway, Alaska

3 out of 5
The shopping was decent but the food was expensive and not that great. The ship excursions were too expensive. Rent some bikes in town and see the sites on your own. Shopping and food wasn't that great.
Don't Miss: The goldminers cemetery was an interesting site.

Juneau, Alaska

3 out of 5
The weather was great and there were some nice hiking trails. The Alaska museum was good too. The ship excursions were too expensive.

Ketchikan, Alaska

Mainly a tourist area around the port. Food wasn't that great and shopping was just OK. Took the excursion to Misty Fjord but it was not worth what we paid.

Pros: The food and the scenery

Cons: Hallways near room sometimes smelled like sewage

Recommends Rhapsody of the Seas? No.
