Review summary

We had a wonderful time, the cruise was great and the food was out of this world! The staff was extremely polite and attentive, and the ship was beautiful.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
We parked at the terminal. It was well organized with lots of personnel to direct us. From car to stateroom, we were on the ship in about an hour! We were directed to complete boarding information, declare any excess wine, got our passenger cards and then boarded. It all went very quickly and very smoothly. Bring a pen or be prepared to wait to use the mini golf pencils they provide.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
The food was EXCELLENT!!! Prepared to perfection, ample portions, beautifully presented. The dining rooms were beautiful and the buffets were incredible. I've been on Royal Caribbean and Carnival and by far the food on our Princess cruise was superior - with one exception - the soft serve ice cream. We had fabulous meals and endless buffets and even a chocolate buffet one afternoon where everything was prepared perfectly. Even their pizza and late night sandwiches were above and beyond. I LOVE soft serve but only have limited opportunities to indulge so when I saw that the ship had that I was excited. But the soft serve ice cream didn't taste like ice cream. It had a glassy look and tasted like ice milk or some instant ice cream product. I couldn't understand why with everything being so perfectly done they went cheap on the soft serve ice cream.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
The activities didn't seem to be well-coordinated. On several days the start times of the activities overlapped so the one activity would be starting before the previous one ended. The dancing activities were fun but there was insufficient space - not one decent dance space on the boat.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
The comedian was very funny - we laughed out loud. The musical entertainment in the bars seemed to lean towards piano players. The bar entertainers voices were okay, not spectacular. It was disappointing that the theatre was so small. At least twice I was not able to attend either the early show or the later show because there were no seats.

Children's Programs

Did not travel with children

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
The staff and service was great. Everyone was very nice and polite and always willing to assist.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
The ship was kept ship-shape! Everything was clean and in perfect condition. The design was a little weird in that if you went down to one of the lower floors, you couldn't simply walk from the front to the back. You had to go up one floor, walk across the middle and then go down. I think they said a kitchen was in the way.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Our room was GREAT! The bed was extremely comfortable and it was a real king-sized bed. We had plenty of room and the balcony was definitely a nice treat. The shower, although not big, was larger than we had in Royal Caribbean and Carnival.

Ship tip

If you're not going to use your cell phone, bring a travel alarm and watch so you can take advantage of all the ship has to offer

Ports of call

Saint John, New Brunswick

We visited St. Martins. Wear waterproof shoes if you plan to go onto the tidal floor. And if you're going to take pictures, be aware that the tide changes so fast that some of our shots got submerged because we dallied and thought we could get them later on

Halifax, Nova Scotia

We had beautiful weather and took advantage of the self-guided walking tour. We walked around the Citadel and saw all the highlights along the water. Limited by time, we unfortunately were not able to go to the Maritime Museum.

Disembarkation

Very well organized!!! We reported to our muster area and within a few minutes we were escorted to the gangway. By controlling the groups of people disembarking at any one time, it made going through customs very efficient. We walked off the ship and instantly retrieved our luggage and then waited at most 5 minutes to go through customs. Kudos to Princess for a job well done!
