Review summary
Being my first transatlantic cruise I did not know what to expect, especially crossing the Atlantic. This was an amazing cruise, with the weather cooperating for the most part. The Regal Princess is a beautiful, fairly new ship and the largest I have been on to date. Our balcony cabin was spacious and comfortable. Only complaint is the bed which was too hard for my liking. The room steward was friendly, attentive, thorough and prompt.
The thing we most look forward to on any Princess cruise is the cuisine and the chefs did not disappoint. There is no need to go to the specialty restaurants, in my opinion, as the service and food in the dining room is always exceptional. Even the buffet food is very good.
We found lots to do on board, even learning a new sport. Many trivia and silly contests were held every day. Though the weather was not conducive to enjoying movies under the stars, the movies showing throughout the ship were welcome on a cold, windy day. Many new release movies were available on demand in our cabin.
The crew was always friendly and most had a smile on their face.
We took an excursion in every port. There were many to choose from which made the choice difficult. The meeting on the ship ahead of time and being escorted to the bus that would take you on your tour was time consuming. I feel that meeting on shore is more efficient.
The entertainment was very good for the most part and there was a variety: comedy, production shows, pianist, singers, etc.
The ship layout was confusing until you got the hang of it. I am a stair climber but you couldn't get to decks 8 and above from the center of the ship. And you could not get to the restaurant in the stern on deck 5 from the center of the ship. You basically had to navigate deck 7 to the stern staircase to go up or down to your desired deck. Same for the forward stairs.
Overall, I was very pleased with our cruise. Princess is our favorite cruise line, hands down.
