Review summary

Ship was very pleasant, many modern amenities.  Clean.  Good entertainment options.  Food selections and preparation were equal to the best we've experienced among the 10 cruises we've taken.

Staff was very polite and responsive.  Could have used more staff members on duty both at the passenger service counter and at the shore excursion desk during peak times.  I waited a half-hour in line at the excursion desk before I could get to an agent.

Wait times for tenders at the Newport R.I. dock exceeded 1 hour.  I decided not to wait and never went ashore.

I was extremely disappointed with the continuous attempts to sell extras, such as a special champagne/wine with dinner, specialty restaurants, and drink packages.  Got tired of hearing all the "commercials".

Also disappointed with what seemed like being nickeled and dimed to death with extra costs.  Small things like being charged extra for a "to go" coffee because we asked for a paper cup with a lid so we could take it back to the cabin--and being charged for a bingo marker after spending $40 to play.  The costs are not what is irritating, it's again the idea that these things are extra. I'd say just put the cost into the price of the cruise and charge a little more ($5-$10 per person).

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

1 out of 5
Food was excellent, as were the menu selections. We were very disappointed that they were unable to accommodate our party at one table. It's understandable that putting 14 people together is a difficult task, but we've been on other cruises where it has been done. We had to split our party each night except when we paid extra for a special wine dinner, or for use of the table where the wine dinner was held.

Bravo, soul music, and the piano player were good shows. The comedian was bad.

Thank you for posting your review.

The uncharging you speak of is pretty much the way cruise business is conducted today. All major lines take the same approach in order to keep down the entry cost of cruising. With 7+ cruises under your belt, I'm sure you are well aware.
