Review summary
Ship was very pleasant, many modern amenities. Clean. Good entertainment options. Food selections and preparation were equal to the best we've experienced among the 10 cruises we've taken.
Staff was very polite and responsive. Could have used more staff members on duty both at the passenger service counter and at the shore excursion desk during peak times. I waited a half-hour in line at the excursion desk before I could get to an agent.
Wait times for tenders at the Newport R.I. dock exceeded 1 hour. I decided not to wait and never went ashore.
I was extremely disappointed with the continuous attempts to sell extras, such as a special champagne/wine with dinner, specialty restaurants, and drink packages. Got tired of hearing all the "commercials".
Also disappointed with what seemed like being nickeled and dimed to death with extra costs. Small things like being charged extra for a "to go" coffee because we asked for a paper cup with a lid so we could take it back to the cabin--and being charged for a bingo marker after spending $40 to play. The costs are not what is irritating, it's again the idea that these things are extra. I'd say just put the cost into the price of the cruise and charge a little more ($5-$10 per person).
