Review summary

We have cruised with RC more than 20 times and this was the worst cruise experience we ever had. Due to mechanical problems on the first night of sailing, we missed all of our ports and sailed very slowly up the coast to Vancouver for four days. Luckily, the seas were calm, but that was the only calm thing about this cruise. There was alot of misinformation, little sympathy given by the crew, and just a major disappointment all the way around. With over 150 Back to Back Cruisers expecting to go on the next cruise to Alaska, RC could have been more upfront with their communication. They chose to let us all reboard for the next cruise and then sent an email 2 hours later stating we would not be allowed off the ship for 4 more days even though we would just be floating in the harbor of Vancouver. That's 9 sea days total before getting to a port! Ridiculous.

The main dining room service was wonderful and the food in the Windjammer was great. It was hard to get drink service anywhere.

Not a lot going on during the day. Since we missed all of our ports due to a mechanical problem, it would have been nice to have added more activities and entertainment options.

Entertainment

Guitarist in the Pub was awesome, and the juggler was great. Main stage shows were not great compared to other RC Ships.

Service and Staff

Our waiters were awesome, we didn't meet our room steward until the second day and he seemed generally annoyed with his job, the cruise director was nowhere to be found.

Ship Quality

The ship had a dingy film in most places, we learned because they had to spray everything because of the norovirus cases they had on the previous sailing. We've loved the Radiance in the past, but it is definitely showing it's age and needs some painting, new carpet, and general maintenance.

Cabin / Stateroom

Cleanliness and overall comfort were fine. TV cords kept falling out of the TV and one of the bed lamps wasn't working properly.

Ship tip

I would recommend a different ship, as it had mechanical issues and we missed all of our ports on this cruise as well as the following cruise to Alaska. Such a bummer.

Due to the mechanical issue and being on the ship for five sea days already, then receiving a letter we would be on the ship for an additional four days before touching the land, our disembarkation was filled with hassles and a bit of chaos.

Seems that Royal is putting little to no money into their older ships and it is becoming a problem. Too bad that happened to everyone on ypur cruise.

This happened to us on brilliance OTS. in March. Basically got a full refund and half priced drinks for the rest of the trip. Free wifi. Hope you did too
