Review summary

Overall a great cruise. This was our first experience with a re-positioning cruise and we had a great time. We enjoyed having 6 "at sea' days so we enjoyed the features of the ship at our leisure. The service that the staff provided made up for the age of the ship.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Flawless; took advantage of the pre-boarding offered by Royal Caribbean and the embarkation process was quick and efficient.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
We selected the "My Time Dinning" package and we found the restaurants in the offering good to excellent. The menus varied by restaurant but overall were good.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
The fitness center was well outfitted and the spa was well staffed. Spa services were good. I had a massage and the masseuse was very good.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
Stage talent varied from college repertory quality to headliner acts appearing in Las Vegas. I walked out of a magic show that was presented by a nationally recognized act because the show was so poor.

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
Our room attendant did an adequate job but did towel animals on an infrequent basis. Our experience with past cruises was that the room attendant made frequent contact with us throughout the cruise. We rarely saw our room attendant and only met her when we sought her out to correct a problem we were having with the cabin. The waiters and service staff at the specialty restaurants and the the main dinning restaurants were excellent.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
Radiance of the Seas is an older ship in the Royal Caribbean fleet and showed its' age. The ship is a little tattered and worn in places. The crew attitude and service made up for the age of the ship.

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
Our cabin was a standard balcony cabin on a cruise ship. If I could change anything, I would outfit the cabin with a better mattress on the bed. I am 5'11" and my feet hung off of the edge of the "king sized" bed. The mattress was the equivalent quality of a mattress that is on a foldout bed. I would also have more and strategically located electrical outlets in the cabin.

Ship tip

I think the thing that I liked the most about the Radiance is that it is a smaller ship and more intimate. We were able to meet more people on this cruise than we have on larger ships.

Did the staff add extra things for entertainment on at sea days?
