Overall we enjoyed the cruise for what it was…a chance for us to get away and enjoy time with families and friends in an environment that is out of the norm for us. We will be doing an Alaskan cruise every year for as long as we can…it’s that special! Question is will we be using this cruise line again? We still have 3 cruise lines to try…Disney, Celebrity and Holland so the short answer is probably not.
Embarkation
5 out of 5
Pretty simple as long as you’ve done everything beforehand, for example printing out all your documents, personal info updated, etc. Several of our group needed to get a picture redone but that was done easy. Had an 1130 showtime and was on the ship by 1145. Awesome!
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
3 out of 5
To be fair, I did know that the food was not going to be as great as some other cruises I had been on since I had researched this vigorously on YouTube. But being my first RCCI sailing, I was going to formulate my opinion after I had experienced it firsthand. It was ok ( I mean I didn’t starve)…the best meal onboard for me was at Jaimie’s Italian (easily top 5 on all our cruises) but everything else was just ok. Wonderland also provided a better food experience than the main dining room. I like that there were other places on the ship to get food other than the main dining rooms and the buffet upstairs. That was a plus!
Onboard Activities
3 out of 5
I can’t believe the one thing I wanted to check out was the globe with a 360 view of the ship and it was inop the whole time we sailed. The SeaPlex was ok but always crowded…didn’t really matter what event you went to…actually the only time it was usually open was when we were docked and most of the passengers were off on their excursions. The arcade center needed a revamp as most machines were broken or not operating correctly. The fitness center was pretty adequate and surprisingly not as busy as I expected it to be. Apparently there were movies playing onboard at certain times but they were either during dinner or during an important event, like gambling. All and all it was just an ok for us for activities.
Entertainment
3 out of 5
The one show we actually had reservations for was actually pretty good, there was a tropical band that played a variety of music that was great but the music choices were pretty limited. The ships entertainment staff did their best to keep everyone involved with trivia contests, game shows, a karaoke contest, etc but music wise, 2 bands and several solo artists (guitar, piano) it wasn’t enough.
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
As usual, the staff went above and beyond to make us feel like royalty for the week. I actually felt sorry for them at one point when I realized that they seemed so short-staffed. For a cruise ship that had double the amount of passengers that I’ve normally sailed with, it sure didn’t seem like the staff were also doubled in size. But that didn’t hinder the cruise experience for us, we still had a great time.
Ship Quality

Big ship! Did I ever get lost? Not really…there are so many signs to point you in the right direction. Areas were constantly being cleaned and maintained so no issue there. I wasn’t too keen on the layout of the shops and food areas…seemed too confining on two floors. Never had a sail away party on the 5th floor where mostly they’refr done on the upper decks to take in the actual sail away…oh well…first time for everything.
Cabin / Stateroom

Perfect size! Love the bed placement by the balcony doors…lots of storage and very clean! The sofa was a little hard…I couldn’t imagine anyone having to sleep on that comfortably but lucky for me that wasn’t this guy.
Disembarkation
4 out of 5
I was on the Quantum sailing that wasn’t able to dock because of high winds and was subject to 7 more hours of free drinks and food…the horror lol. They even offered up free Wi-Fi to anyone that needed it so they could change their plans. Granted! You are not going to please everyone…there were a few vocal opinions being tossed about in the buffet area but all in all, order was maintained. Eventually we were told to gather in our respective muster areas and when it came time to leave, we got off…no problem…had to find our bags in a sea of bags but once gathered and we wave our passport at the passport guy it was ez-pz. The bus we booked was waiting for us (despite the long delay) and we were off to our overnight hotel. And of course, we are met in the hotel lobby by a group of passengers that were supposed to have boarded our cruise earlier that day and are just waiting till they get the ok to come over to the port. Kudos to the cruise line for keeping everyone safe and not risking our lives.
I’m glad you enjoyed your cruise! And I was one of the many that were waiting for your cruise to dock so we could get in!!! LOL and while you were eating and drinking for free, we had to spend additional money to buy unplanned meals. 😂 we were also eager to try the north start, but it wasn’t working either, per what I have been reading, it hasn’t worked for a while now, which is disappointing for sure.
