Review summary

Like many people, I did not want to take this cruise due to coronavirus concerns. RC was unwilling to budge to allow people get credit for a different cruise - unless they were from China or Hong Kong since they were not allowed to sail. TOTALLY UNFAIR BUSINESS PRACTICE!!! Look at the cruise ships that were quarantined - that could have been the Quantum! Thankfully, it was not. Overall, we thought the Quantum was a nice, modern ship. The passengers formed a real melting pot, with people from ALL over the world. The crew was doing all they could to make passengers feel comfortable and safe. They can only do so much, after all. The cruise itself was not the highlight of our trip, but the destinations were - especially Singapore and Phuket. Willing to give RC another chance in the future, but might invest extra cash in one of those "cancel for any reason" travel insurance plans just in case chaos ensues.

Embarkation

Royal Caribbean indicated they would be taking extra precautions due to coronavirus. We were asked whether we had been to China or Hong Kong within the previous two weeks. We had not. NO ONE checked our passport to ensure we were telling the truth - we were, in fact, telling the truth, but I felt as though others may have LIED and gotten away with it. Embarkation was generally a mess with very long wait times.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
The food was just OK. We took a deal to eat in specialty restaurants for 4 out of 5 evenings. We ate at Chops Grille, Izumi, Jamie's Italian and Wonderland. All 4 were underwhelming, but Wonderland was probably the best of the bunch - it's a unique, creative dining experience. We tried to stay away from the buffet due to coronavirus chaos.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
There's a lot to do on board Quantum as compared to RC's older ships.

Entertainment

We did not see any shows.

Children's Programs

We did not sail with kids.

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
The staff tried to go above and beyond given all the concerns everyone had about coronavirus.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
The ship was very clean, but it did not appear as though that they were undertaking extra sanitization procedures as promised by RC due to coronavirus concerns.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Our cabin was extremely large for an interior cabin. The virtual balcony was a very nice touch.

Ports of call

Singapore

5 out of 5
Singapore is an AMAZING city, and we were lucky enough to spend several days there before and after the cruise.

Port Klang (Kuala Lumpur), Malaysia

3 out of 5
We visited Batu Caves and KL Tower. It took a really long time to get to and from the port to the city. Kuala Lumpur is very dirty, especially the area around the Batu Caves. There's a lot of traffic in the city. KL Tower offered amazing views of the city.

Penang (Pulau Pinang), Malaysia

4 out of 5
We did the longest tour available in Penang so we got to see and do a lot. We saw a few incredibly beautiful temples and drove along the coast for a bit. Penang is MUCH cleaner than Kuala Lumpur. We enjoyed it here.

Phuket, Thailand

5 out of 5
Phuket was one of our dream destinations. We visited Phang Nga Bay, which was absolutely amazing. We had lunch at a fishing village along the bay. We loved Phuket so much that we plan on taking a "land vacation" there as soon as we can!

Disembarkation

LONG lines at Singapore immigration. It didn't help that some passengers were CUTTING people in line in order to move up. Passengers were being extremely barbaric about this process. There needed to be more law and order to this process than there was!
