Review summary

NCL ruined our cruise experience. The ship broke down due to their lack of proper maintenance and we were stuck in one port for several days with extremely limited updates or communication from the cruise staff. We entirely missed our stop in Kona, our two days in Kauai were reduced to one day, and sailing past the Na'Pali coast was totally eliminated from our itinerary. The entertainment lineup consisted of the same comedian for THREE nights and a magician for two nights. You would think NCL could at least line up unique entertainment for each evening. Guest Services on the ship was unwilling/unable to provide any assistance, the General Manager on the ship was unresponsive to our complaints, complaints submitted through the Guest Experience were responded to with canned responses and the Senior VP of Guest Services ignored our two email attempts. Shame on NCL!

This ship does not even come close in comparison to other cruise ships. It has lounges, dining areas, and one theater but not much else!

Entertainment

The comedian was great but he was the main entertainment for THREE of the nights on the cruise. Even the best comedy show gets boring after 3 nights of it.

Waiters in dining rooms were polite and efficient. We didn't meet our room steward at any point during the entire cruise and he didn't do anything special for us (towel animals, anniversary acknowledgement, etc).

Small but typical of a cruise cabin. Clean and adequate. We had to report a maintenance request THREE times before it was finally addressed.

Not very supportive comments from the community. I also dislike cruise problems, though they occur all of the time. The biggest problem is the communication, and not offering you something in return…cruise credit or future cruise credit at a minimum. I wouldn’t judge NCL by this one cruise, though.

Yes, the ship broke down due to mechanical issues. Happens on all ships. I was on that cruise. Gosh, being “stuck” in Hawaii with all you can eat and drink “terrible situation. lol Did we miss some stops. Yes. Did we get to see Molokai. Yes. And the crater by Maui yes. Does other cruises get to see that? Nope. The following week a RCL ship Broke down in Vancouver. After everyone was on the ship. They had to go home the next day. No cruise. Crap happens. Enjoy what you can.

You got an extra day in Kauai? So lucky! Are you sure the mechanical issue was due to improper maintenance? Can you elaborate on what maintenance they performed and what they should have done differently?

Sounds like the typical NCL Hawaiian cruise. Unusual for a ship to have engine problems but it happens. All you can do try to make the best of it. Sending complaints to everyone in the company isn’t going to anything but make you more frustrated.
