We booked it knowing there were no days at sea...but there was one due to not going to Kona. We were so disappointed in that and NCL did NOTHING to compensate for that, just apologized and said they would do the same for all and any passenger. We did like that we could unpack and able to spend overnights on Maui and Kauai.
Embarkation
4 out of 5
Relatively quick and easy
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
3 out of 5
The buffet had a large selection—most will find something they like. The specialty restaurants where we ate (Jefferson Bistro, Moderno and La Cucina (favorite of the 3)) were okay; heard the steakhouse was better, but unable to get reservation there. Desserts generally were not great.
Onboard Activities
3 out of 5
We only participated in 1 activity; hard to rate
Entertainment
Did not participate; spent our days off ship, too exhausted in the evenings to participate
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
They were all very nice; appeared to be overworked, but still very nice.
Ship Quality
3 out of 5
They tried their best. The carpeting in the cabin was not in the best shape. There were some rust spots on the balcony and outside of the ship.
Cabin / Stateroom
3 out of 5
The cabin was clean; it was generally small. The bathroom, especially the shower stall, is tiny. There were plenty of hangers in the closet; good amount of small drawers. There was a safe, a small refrigerator and a blow dryer (in the room, not bathroom). The balcony was nice and private; it’s small. There are only 2 outlets in the room on the small dresser/desk area; with all of our technology, more outlets or USB ports would have been nice. There were often rattling sounds heard from the walls/doors overnight.
Ship tip
Hope/pray that you make every port and on time. You can arrange for your own tours for a fraction of the cost of the cruise excursions, but it takes a lot of organization, research and time to arrange.
It’s dark, dingy. They did give us leis upon entry. We stayed at a hotel upon return to this port and went on our own to Waikiki Beach, Dole, the north shore, Diamond Head Monument and Pearl Harbor.
Great tip! Too bad about missing Kona. Hope the medical emergency person is going to be OK. Yeah any port can be missed for any number of reasons. That's the inherent risk of cruising.
