Review summary

Kona's tendering process was bad (had to take a small boat ride to go ashore). Very long wait times to get on the small boats (30-40 min wait). It seems like There was only one entrance/exit for boarding 2 boats at a time... NCL should make more exits and boats available for the tendering process. if you book an excursion not with NCL, and NOT on the first tender boat from the cruiseshipe, you might miss your excursion. That was what one excursion vendor told us... We booked our zodiac excursion with NCL (after calling several excursion companies), but we still waited for 30-45 mins before we left the cruise ship. The tendering process needs to be improved. We were only at Kona from 7am-5:30pm, the tendering process took 1+ hour itself (for the wait time only). This does not make sense.

If you notice. Kona has a small pier and cannot handle more volume. Done POA six times and always book excursions through NCL for priority boarding. Also amazing number of people are not used dealing with boats in open waters and can take longer to load and unload. Boarding has to be done on the sheltered side of the ship facing the dock. No other options.
