Review summary

Overall, a mediocre experience which agreed for the most part with what I expected.  Poor quality food, mandatory tips ("service charges") and poor excursions.  We also had to wait over four hours before we could get inside our stateroom.  The destinations were nice, however, but that had little to do with the ship and line itself.  It would be nice if a better cruise line (Princess, or in my dreams - Regeant) did Hawai'i as well.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

1 out of 5
Bad food

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
Did only a few, but they weren't too great.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
Some shows are good, most are crappy nostalgia.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
They do work hard, but they don't have what they should to do their job excellently

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
A ship only ten years old that seems much older and in worse shape than the Marco Polo after 37 years.

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
Never seemed to be clean

Ship tip

The library is always quiet and rarely occupied, although someone was pitching a pyramid scheme ("for Jesus") one night. I hope no one swallowed the bait.

Ports of call

Honolulu, Oahu

3 out of 5
I've been here before, it's pretty dumpy given all the hype.

Kahului, Maui

5 out of 5

Hilo, Hawaii

5 out of 5

Kailua-Kona, Hawaii

5 out of 5

Nawiliwili, Kauai

5 out of 5
Napili coast is amazing!

I guess when you expect a mediocre time, you don't prove yourself wrong when you are unhappy. I cannot imagine a mediocre trip to Hawaii. Next time book Princess I guess.

What ship does not have mandatory service charges (your tips) these days? Booked excursions not needed in Hawaii, only a very inexpensive rental car. The sights are "drive up". On any cruise, you can almost always save $$ by booking independent of the ship. And the destinations have EVERYTHING to do with the POA/NCL. The only game in town. No one else has this superior itinerary.

Aloha!  Sorry to hear your cruise was a little disappointing, but it sounds like it was what you were expecting.  You’re right that Regent doesn’t have any stops scheduled in Hawaii, but Princess has a number of visits planned (but you need more than 7 days to visit Hawaii with Princess).  Here’s hoping your next cruise is perfect!
