Review summary
We sailed on a Royal Caribbean ship from Sydney to Honolulu. We got off that ship and immediately boarded the Pride of America for a cruise around Hawaii. This gave us an excellent way to compare both cruise lines and to judge value per dollar of each. While the Pride of America is a great mode of transportation around the islands, the onboard life leaves something to be desired. We found the evening entertainment was so so, the ship's decor was lackluster and the overall ambiance was mediocre. On the upside, sInce it is the only game in town, this is probably the easiest and best way to get to the most popular islands without the bother of packing, unpacking and flying. We found the staff to be very congenial, and the service was very good. We were glad to note that Norwegian's cuisine has not been compromised, and the food was very good to excellent. Overall, we're glad we took the cruise, but we probably won't repeat.
