Review summary

Clean ship, maybe dated in a few areas, but nothing really bad. Crew was super friendly. The ports cannot be beat and is probably the best way to see all of Hawaii.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

1 out of 5
Food in the dining rooms was for the most part terrible. Best food was at the lunch and dinner buffets. We wound up eating there after the 3rd night. The Lazy J steakhouse was a complete letdown both in service\, quality and taste of the food. Gristle in a filet mignon? Lobster bisque without a taste of sherry? When we first experienced it on the Dawn\, we thought we died and went to heaven. Not on POA.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
We only saw the shows\, way too tired to enjoy anything else. The Aloha show was a great introduction to the Polynesian cultures. Oh What a Night was good\, but was somewhat repeated on the last night.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Staff could not have been greater. Stewards were outstanding\, servers in Aloha cafe were great...everyone looked like they loved their jobs. It was pleasant to have conversations with the staff. The \"management\" on the ship is really concerned that you are having a great time. Main dining room personnel need a little more polish.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
Ship is small but was never really crowded. Our cruise was sold out. Decor is ok\, All American. All the food is in the aft section...the main entertainment in the front. Our rooms were on deck 7 just above the Mardi Gras Lounge. Yes you could hear the thump\, thump\, thump of the music...under normal circumstances we would have part of it....BUT the cruise is port intensive and we barely made it past the last show...LOL.

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
Very clean and our stewardess was superb. The room is probably the smallest one yet\, but we managed...although the room seems to shrink once you start buying souvenirs. We did have a few problems with the safe...but the staff was quick in fixing the issue. Location deck 7 forward port side gave us the biggest balcony we ever had...imagine having actual lounge chairs on the balcony. The port side is really crappy when in Maui and Hilo. Oh so magnificent when leaving Kauai and sailing along the Napoli coast. Also don't miss the beautiful scenery as you approach Kauai in the early morning hours.

Pros: The ports made this cruise

Cons: Food. We do not take cruises for the food but on this ship we had to use the buffet.

Recommends Pride of America? Yes!
