Review summary

We were a bit nervous after booking cruise & reading the reviews with the comments of it being like an old peoples home. We both had a fantastic time & met so many interesting people with so much experience of cruising. The food was fantastic & also the service, much better than any other cruise line I've sailed with.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Excellent & fast with no waiting or fuss

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
Ate in main dining room most nights (Oriental) amazing food every time especially the gala evening, both food & service were faultless. We used the Beach house twice & were both so stuffed after it we had to go to bed, lovely food & well worth the £7.50 cover charge. Sindu WOW what do I say, easily the best Indian food I have ever had the pleasure of sampling!!!!!

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
Free entry to spa which we enjoyed on a few occassions one being Christmas day. Excellent steam room. Very small casino. Golf driving nets were fun.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
Weren't too keen on the shows put on by the Headliners but there was an excellent comedian on 2 nights & the entertainment team run by Alex were excellent. Also the Lords tavern held some good quizzes

Children's Programs

adults only ship

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Excellent everywhere, Victor was our cabin stewart & Ashton was a member of the bar staff who had us howling with laughter, all staff everywhere are so attentive.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Very easy to navigate around and all areas spotlessly clean

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
Lovely comfy bed, plenty of hanging room in wardrobes, fantastic shower in bathroom over a bath. only drawback was lack of room for our 2 very large cases. We were on the highest deck right in the front of the ship so felt a lot of movement, in future I would be more selective of which cabin I booked.

Ship tip

I am more used to sailing on the big ships so did suffer seasickness during some choppy weather so make sure you pack some tablets to prevent it.

Ports of call

Southampton (London), England

5 out of 5
Excellent port to sail from, we always book a hotel on the night before we set sail

Lisbon, Portugal

5 out of 5
My son lives here so I've fallen in love with the place, very hilly with cobbled streets if you are exploring yourself.

Funchal, Madeira

5 out of 5
We could have stayed here and not cruised any further. Stunning Funchal has got so much to do. Weather was fantastic. We did the cable car to Monte & the botanical gardens & the wicker basket ride down, we didn't do these in an excursion but on out own

La Palma, Canary Islands

3 out of 5
Not much to see & do. I would have to do an excursion if I visited again.

Gran Canaria

4 out of 5
Very suprised at Las Palmas, lovely golden beaches. We had a walk over to the mariner for a drink & look around, plenty of shopping in the centre

Lanzarote

4 out of 5
Docked in Arricefe, pretty little capital to wander around for a few hours

Tenerife, Canary Islands

3 out of 5
Docked in the capital Santa Cruz I think it was called, not much here apart from shopping. Would have to do an excursion if I was to return

La Coruna, Spain Did not visit port

Missed this port as the Oriana had power failure & we had to do a second stop at Lisbon which was a bonus for me to visit my son for the 2nd time!

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Brilliant, quick & simple with no queues

It was a completely relaxing holiday, no hustle & bustle. We've booked the Iona for next year so be good to compare how the largest P&O ship compares

I love all the p&o ships. No rock wall, water slided or other theme park atractions. Just a more traditional relaxing cruise
