It was a long trip (18 days) with ten days at sea. The cruise ship was wonderful along with the islands but the days at sea were a bit long as the weather did not cooperate. But we're happy we did it and we had a lot of fun.
Embarkation
4 out of 5
Everything went smoothly but the ship had computer problems so it took longer than usual to embark.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
5 out of 5
Holland America, what else can you say -- first class all the way! As always, the crew was great as was the food and entertainment.
Onboard Activities
5 out of 5
The sea was a bit rough and weather was cool so we didn't spend much time on the deck. Fitness area was top notch with lots of equipment to choose from.
Entertainment
5 out of 5
Entertainment was excellent, we particularly liked the Lincoln Center Stage quintet although the main stage shows were also quite nice.
Children's Programs
No children
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
Can only provide high marks here, the staff was top notch in all areas.
Ship Quality
5 out of 5
The ship was always clean in fact, you always saw someone cleaning something whether it was carpeting, restrooms, brass, etc.
Cabin / Stateroom
3 out of 5
Our particular stateroom had some wear and tear although it was clean and everything functioned. Most of the issues pertained to the bathroom were the shower valves were worn and not functioning as they should and the sink had some minor cracks.
Ship tip
The seas are rough in December so you may want to schedule another time if that bothers you.
We had an overnight stay here so we rented a car for two days, however, there was no place to park it overnight! Had to return the car and rearrange our planned schedule. Also, if you rent a car do not rent it from the airport as there is no shuttle service. I'm told that the Waikiki rental locations have shuttle service.
This, in our opinion, was the nicest port as it has easy access to everything and rental car shuttle service. It also is one of the most, if not, the most beautiful Hawaiian islands.
We were delayed due to some passengers not checking in with Immigration officials in a timely manner. Also, going through customs was a bit unusual as there were no forms to fill out and they just checked your passport as you left the ship. None of this was explained so many of us were left wondering prior to disembarking.
