Review summary

Overall and great cruise and great experience on an Oasis class RC ship. Having been on all the RC ship sizes now, we would opt for the non Oasis class ships since they were less crowded and seemed to have better service and food, however the drawback on those is usually less entertainment and things to do so you have to really weigh there tradeoffs and decide what's more important for that particular cruise.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
This time we embarked at Terminal A which is nice and new. Embarkation although busy went pretty smoothly and quickly.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
Part of the reason for my 3 star rating is the fact that we cruise RC often (we were on Explorer of the Seas last month) and the food is exactly the same on every boat, which can become kind of boring the more often you cruise. One thing that surprised us was how tiny the Wind Jammer buffet was on the Oasis. We were on the the Explorer of the Seas and it was huge with TONS of different options and stations.....Oasis Windjammer was quite disappointing and had not many options. The Portside BBQ specialty restaurant was actually pretty awesome and the uncharge was very reasonable. One tip to know if that on port days, kids eat free at the Portside BBQ. The dining room service was not the best I've seen on Oasis. It was Rockstar level on Explorer. Again, the dining room food for us is redundant and RC has really scaled things down over the years with regards to food quality and variety. One theme we kept saying to each other was that the presentation of the food is absolutely beautiful but 95% of the time the taste never backed up the presentation.....bland most of the time. The desserts are especially bad in this case. They look amazing but taste like something you would eat at a Senior Living cafeteria.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
You aren't going to complain about no activities on Oasis. It is jam packed with things to do and see. That in itself makes the Oasis worth cruising at least one time in your life. Waterslides, FlowRider, Abyss, pools & jacuzzis all amazing!

Entertainment

4 out of 5
The only reason I didn't give entertainment 5 stars was the fact that the musical Cats was the worst thing we have seen in our lives. The live music was also a bit painful at times to listen to. However DO NOT miss the Aqua 80 show and the Frozen in Time ice show! These were the best shows we have ever seen on a cruise. Aqua 80 show could easily be on the Vegas strip, it was amazing!

Children's Programs

4 out of 5
Besides the other bratty spoiled kids that I heard about each evening after pickup, the Adventure Ocean on RC overall is pretty great for the kids and the parents.

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
The dining room staff was not great. The bar staff at certain bars were also not great and would downright just ignore you at times. Room steward and other ship personal were great as you would expect.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
The design and layout of the Oasis class ships are pretty great, although still not sure why they made the windjammer into a tiny place with limited options. Everything was clean in all areas for the most part. The only concern the we noticed was in our hallway at our stateroom. It smelled pretty moldy which was concerning.

Cabin / Stateroom

2 out of 5
Comfort, size and quietness of our cabin was great. Are one issue we did have was the room steward was using a deodorizer in our room that ended up making us sick with a cough and stuffy nose. We asked them to please stop using, to which they did, however the smell never fully went away.

Ship tip

Do not waste your precious time on earth to go see Cats. You've been warned.

Ports of call

Miami, Florida

5 out of 5
We always love cruising out of Miami. This was only an embarkation day for us and no show excursion.

Perfect Day At Coco Cay, Bahamas

4 out of 5
Great to do once. Very cool stop but over half of it is upcharges. The food was great, with plenty of options. We found plenty to do without having to pay for fun. One thing to remember is that this is the Bahamas, which means pretty north, which means the ocean temp was pretty cold in December. Speaking of cold, their big pool with swim up bar was ice cold when we were there....definitely does not make you want to hang out in it for long periods of time and buy drinks at the swim up bar. We did not do any shore excursions.

Cozumel, Mexico

4 out of 5
We didn't do any shore excursions but rather caught a taxi at the port and went to Centro to shop and looking around for the day, which turned out to be a great choice. Lots of shopping opportunities and plenty of food and drink options.

Coxen Hole, Roatan, Bay Islands, Honduras

5 out of 5
We did the Tabyana Beach day shore excursion which is the same we did last time we visited Roatan. This is a must do if you like Snorkeling since Roatan sits at the second largest barrier reef in the world and the fish and reef are amazing to snorkel (we think best in the Caribbean). After a great day at the beach and snorkeling, we finished off the day shopping at the cruise port, which was so-so. Roatan cruise port still pretty tiny and not a lot of options.

Costa Maya (Mahahual), Mexico

3 out of 5
We did not do a shore excursion in Costa Maya since there isn't a lot of options that were interesting to us as well as the fact that cruise lines usually make this one of their short stops so not tons of time in port. We did get off the ship and shopped a little and checked out the bird aviary but you could just as well not get off the boat and not felt like you missed anything since you really get you shopping in Mexico experience in Cozumel.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Very quick and easy!

Thank you for your review. Agree on Cats although the second half was a bit better, just have to suffer through that first half.

Hi Laylee7, We have a 9 year old. I think the Oasis is absolutely perfect for kids regarding the ships activities and kids club. Our kid never ran out of things to do and never wanted to leave the ship Lol. I'm confident that you and your family are going to have a blast on Oasis.

How old were your kids? We were considering Anthem or Oasis for our 8/9 year olds. We chose oasis because of the amazing kids club that doesn’t have all those structured activities
