Oasis of the Seas

7 Night Western Caribbean (Port Canaveral Roundtrip)

Sail date: January 20, 2019

Ship: Oasis of the Seas

Traveled as: Large Group

Review summary

Had a great time and would gladly sail on Oasis again. Hope they improve the no-fee dining and bed quality!

Embarkation

Very fast; no complaints. Port Canaveral is an awesome place to sail out of. Line moved fast and was on the boat in less than 1/2 an hour from start to finish.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
Unfortunately, my family and I have decided that Carnival has pretty much cornered the market when it comes to the no-fee dining options. However, the little cafe that serves sandwiches, salads, and soups in Central Park is delicious. The pizza was very good too. The main dining room was lackluster but our servers made it worth the experience!

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
The pools / hot tubs were almost always crowded. This isn’t much different from what other cruisers have described, it is a very large ship after all. The rock climbing walls, zip line, wave riders, and mini golf were all entertaining as well.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
The comedy shows were great. The ice skating and aqua shows were mind blowing. I recommend making reservations beforehand through the cruise planner so you can get there early and get good seats. Cats was pretty bad though; it was so difficult to hear what the actors were singing, the theater was half empty by intermission.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Service and staff were incredible! We went on oasis two sailings after the norovirus outbreak on board and I really felt like they tried to assuage some of the fear of that. There was staff with hand sanitizer everywhere (“washy washy!”) and portable sinks placed throughout to wash your hands often! The buffet morning staff were incredible and our dining room staff. They work so hard!

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Beautiful ship. The layout takes some getting used to, mainly because it’s massive, but once you’ve walked it a few times it’s easy to navigate. It is a large ship so be prepared to walk. Love the neighborhood design / layout. The main atrium with the rising tide bar was lovely. Central Park was my favorite place on board.

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
The cabin was appropriately sized and the bathroom. There was ample storage. Glass door in the bathroom was awesome. The beds and couch bed were SO uncomfortable though and the pillows provided were pretty wretched. I would bring my own pillow if / when we go on Oasis again.

Ports of call

Falmouth, Jamaica

Love going to Jamaica. It was beautiful as always; those blue mountains rarely disappoint! We shopped in this port as there is a little u shaped shopping area right when you get off the boat, it was nice. Don’t be afraid to haggle prices!

Cozumel, Mexico

5 out of 5
We went to the Playa Mia resort and had a fantastic time! We paid for the day pass ($75 through Playa Mia) that included: transportation, open bars with strong and delicious drinks, splash zone, pool, and water slides access, inflatable obstacle course, and use of kayaks, paddle boats, and buffet. It was awesome and we will be going back in 2020 on Mardi Gras!

Labadee (Cruise Line Private Island)

4 out of 5
Service and staff were polite and accommodating. The water was very murky though and you could tell the port sees A LOT of traffic. It looked a little run down when we went. Still had a blast though. Didn’t take advantage of any of the offerings of the port, just had a beach day.

Disembarkation

Easy, fast, love Port Canaveral.
