Review summary

Cruising is not for everyone. This is our 4th cruise with our last one being in 2006. Prior to this cruise, we have been doing the all-inclusive, fly in and stay at the resort type of Caribbean trips. As I get older I much prefer that kind of vacation. Now I have to say we went with my daughter, son-in-law, and granddaughter, and this was their first cruise and they enjoyed it enough to book another cruise next year. But not me and my wife. Unless something drastic happens to change my mind, this will be my LAST cruise!

Embarkation

Way too many people!!! Should have known better considering the size of this ship!!!

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
We purchased the "ultimate" dining package so never actually went into the main dining rooms. Turns out that "ultimate" doesn't necessarily mean that. Certain restaurants had dollar limits or were excluded. When I see "ultimate" to me that should mean basically you get to eat whatever and how much you want, period! The bars were okay, but having to use the Deluxe drink package shown on your sail pass card for EACH drink got a bit old.

Onboard Activities

Decks were so crowded, especially on days at sea, and the walking was difficult around the pool area, as far as being slippery, that my swimsuits never even got WET the whole week!

Entertainment

4 out of 5
We saw Cat's and it was good. Also a ventriloquist show was good.

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
Our room steward, Michael did a great job of maintaining our room!

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
I suppose the design of the ship was okay but using the elevators could be frustrating. Not being an expert on elevators, I cannot actually offer much in the way of how they could be improved, except to say there were times when we would wait for extended periods of time and never have one stop on our floor.

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
As far as our experience cruising, the cabin was fairly spacious. Of course the bathroom and shower were pretty small, but that is to be expected. My wife had to step outside the shower to shave her legs and I also stood outside and leaned in to wash my hair. Actually the worst thing about the shower other than the size of it was the soap/shampoo holder. The way it was made everything you placed in it fell through the small bars and landed on the floor. And needless to say trying to bend over and pick something up was difficult!! Those holders DEFINITELY need a better design!!

Ship tip

I would recommend a smaller ship. My experience on previous cruises was that unless there was bad weather, there was very little noticeable movement. Well not on this ship! Turns out apparently the BIGGER the ship the MORE side to side motion!

Ports of call

Port Canaveral, Florida

Point of embarkation and no excursion.

Nassau, Bahamas

Did not leave the ship, and was much less crowded onboard of course with a large number of passengers going ashore.

Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas

4 out of 5
We had a private tour of the island. Interesting experience.

Philipsburg, St. Maarten

4 out of 5
Again, we had a private van tour of the island and it was also interesting.

Disembarkation

At least a bit better than the EMBARKATION! We chose to deal with taking our on luggage off the ship which probably saved us a couple hours time!!
