Embarkation

We arrived at the port at about 10:30. We dropped off our luggage with a porter, and waited while my husband parked. We proceeded to the security line for suite guests , which took us only about 10 minutes to get through. As we were walking upstairs to check in, we heard the boarding call for suite guests, so we were able to board as soon as we got our Sea Pass Cards. I prefer the process of getting Sea Pass cards at the port instead of when we arrive at the room, so I hope that this process will continue. We walked straight onto the ship, which was practically empty! It was nice to be able to go to the Solarium Bistro, which was the meeting point for our friends, and settle in with beverages and lunch to await the "Rooms Open" announcement.

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
We ate dinner in the MDR every night, except one. We also had the lunch buffet in the MDR when we sailed from Puerto Rico. It was not listed in the Cruise Compass, but our waiter told us about it the night before, so we decided to try it instead of fighting the crowds in the Windjammer. We've always enjoyed the food in the MDR, and this cruise did not disappoint. We had lunch on embarkation day in the Solarium Bistro, and it was fresh and light fare - perfect for a warm Florida afternoon! We had an anniversary dinner with our friends in Chops, and the Filet Mignon is one of the best steaks I've ever eaten. The entire dinner was enjoyable and very good, but that steak! Wow! We had breakfast and lunch in the Windjammer on several occasions, and the food is better than your typical buffet. It seems as if you go early or just before they close, it is easier to navigate and you can avoid the feeding frenzy that comes with a buffet experience on a ship this size. The wait staff in Windjammer was attentive and did an excellent job of clearing tables for other guests coming in. Boardwalk Dogs, Sorrento's, Park Cafe, and Cafe Promenade were all excellent for quick snacks between lunch and dinner.

Onboard Activities

We enjoyed the Solarium pool and hot tubs, since there were no kids jumping and screaming. This is a nice place to have to get away from that. The track on Deck 5 is well-kept and has nice overlooks and places to stop and take a breather if you need to as you try to work off the extra calories from the fruity cocktails and extra desserts! Our son enjoyed boogieboarding on the Flowrider. I had planned to try the Flowrider surf simulator, but I didn't get around to it. Oasis Dunes was a fun way to kill some time in the afternoon, but it gets crowded on sea days, and some players could be a little overzealous with their putts. The zipline was fun, but short. The only thing I would change about it is the clothing policy. I had reef shoes on, and had to borrow a pair of socks from my husband so I could use a pair of the loaner shoes. These shoes were basically rubber ballet slippers with velcro straps over the top, and my reef shoes were much more protective than they were. I didn't pack sneakers, so I had no other option. I also had to remove my Fitbit watch and my necklace, which is a 16" chain, so it's more of a choker than a necklace. I understand the need for safety, but felt that this was a bit overboard.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
This was our second time on Oasis, and I've read complaints about age and cleanliness of the ship on some reviews. I honestly have to say that I never saw staff who were not cleaning something. The ship is in great shape, and it is clear that the staff takes great pride in her appearance and cleanliness. I really wish Royal would not add water slides to Oasis and Allure, as I understand they will be doing in the future. Honestly, this ship does not need them and they cut some of the views from the Boardwalk rooms. Harmony and Symphony have them so the option is there for those who want an Oasis class with water slides.

Ship tip

You can't beat the fantail (Deck 5 at the back of the ship) for a place to just sit and breathe and watch the ocean! Absolute bliss!

Ports of call

Philipsburg, St. Maarten

4 out of 5
St. Maarten is beautiful, and they are really working to recover from the 2017 hurricane season. We did the Amazing Race St Maarten excursion, and it was so much fun. I would have enjoyed it more if we could have had smaller teams, since three of us were racing and we were added to another group that a couple of people had some mobility issues.

San Juan, Puerto Rico

3 out of 5
We just walked around Old San Juan. We have both been there before, and I have always felt it was kind of meh.

Labadee (Cruise Line Private Island)

5 out of 5
Love Labadee!!! This is a great beach day! Our son was disappointed that he could not do the zipline because he did not meet the weight requirement, but overall it was a great port, and he enjoyed the day on the beach.
