Review summary

This was only our fifth cruise and first on Royal Caribbean, but the best so far. The skepticism of going on such a large ship with over 8,000 passengers and crew was unfounded. The Oasis is very well laid out with several distinct neighborhoods to spread the passengers out. The service everywhere was also not compromised. Labadee is the best private beach facility of the three that I have experienced. Highly recommend this ship and cruise.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
6,475 passengers on this trip and it was flawless - RC has got this down pat.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Overall, great food - a couple exceptions bring rating down. Visited two specialty restaurants - Sabor mexican was super - Chops Grill was disappointing. Wine is way over priced. A bottle of the next to cheapest (by one dollar) Malbec cost a total of $47 at Chops. Main Dining room was better than expected.

Sabor

5 out of 5

Great service and atmosphere (like the Boardwalk carnival feel). The guacamole is freshly made and the best. Make-your-own fajitas and quesadillas were excellent. Margaritas from bar were barely fair.

Chop's Grille

3 out of 5

Excellent atmosphere and service, but food was so-so. Filet Mignon good, Ribeye just fair. Wine list is way overpriced.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
Something for everyone. Kids should not get bored with the largest number and variety of facilities I have ever seen.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
Large variety - some better than others. Venues have large capacity and we were never denied entry even though we did not have reservations for most shows

Theater

4 out of 5

Super venue facility - very large, comfortable, and superbly operated by staff. Excellent sound system and orchestra. Saw three shows, one movie, and one adult entertainment event. All good, but the Broadway show Cats was a little disappointing - great performances and singing for the most part - but not a story I liked - do not understand why this was so popular.

Comedy Live

3 out of 5

Just fair. One comedian was better than the other, but nothing outstanding.

Studio B

5 out of 5

Ice show was fantastic. So good, we went twice. Skaters are very skilled and put on a very entertaining show. They seemed to thoroughly enjoy their performances which is not the impression you always get from these on-board shows.

AquaTheater

4 out of 5

A little disappointed - expected more diving from the highest platforms.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Excellent all around - no exceptions.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
RC took their time to design and build this super large ship - they get it right!

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Typical, expected standard balcony cabin. Was disappointed at first with assignment of a stateroom facing the inside Central Park, but turns out I liked it better than the usual ocean view cabin - more interesting.

Ship tip

Do not be apprehensive about the experience you will have on this absolutely huge ship - RC got the plan down right from embarkation through to disbarkation. Felt less crowded on this ship than cruise last year on a ship with 2/3 less passengers.

Ports of call

Port Canaveral, Florida

5 out of 5
Port terminal built just for the Oasis is well planned - check-in was a breeze. No excursion from RC planned, but area is beautilful, and nearby Kennedy Space center is well worth a visit.

Labadee (Cruise Line Private Island)

5 out of 5
Beautiful - not the Haiti you think of. Plenty to do and decent beaches. On-shore lunch was better than expected.

Falmouth, Jamaica

4 out of 5
Good, but we didn't venture far from pier. Buffet's Margaritaville is quite the place with a pool that you could spend the entire day at.

Cozumel, Mexico

4 out of 5
As this was our fifth time for the Cancun/Cozumel area, we have seen and done most of the local fare, and therefore only spent a couple hours off the boat browsing the very large number of shopping opportunities. Highly recommend a visit to the Mayan ruins of Tulum and Coba, or if you're up for a longer bus drive, the magnificent temples of Chichen Itza.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Just like the super smooth Embarkation - organized and efficient - was off boat and through customs to the parking garage in 20 minutes.
