If you like large ships and incredible things to do, and see this IS your ship. If you like small ships and relaxation, this is NOT your ship.

Review summary

If you love lots of activity, Oasis is a beauty and will not disappoint you. If you like a more quiet experience, I'd suggest Royal's Vision of the Seas class of ship instead. Much, much smaller and much more intimate.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
We were back to back on this cruise, having sailed on her the week before, so they have a very seamless walk off and walk on process that was very easy and quick.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
I found the food service aboard to be EXCELLENT. I found the quality of what was served to be average and nothing to write home about. I was particularly disappointed with most meat dishes. I have been finding lately, on Royal ships that they are not buying the best cuts of meat. On more than one occasion, I got pieces of meat that were full of connective tissue, fatty, and in a couple of cases out and out inedible. This was disappointing. This was my 16 or 17th cruise with Royal Caribbean. I expect, and have experienced better. Great job to the Wait staff. Thumbs down to the meat buyer.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
I'm a "sit by the pool and read" guy. But if you like a lot to do, you won't be disappointed on Oasis. If you're bored, it's because you didn't look in the Cruise Compass to find something to do. There are plenty of things going on and the Cruise Director and his assistant were outstanding.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
The diving show was incredible, and extreme! Great show. The comedians were pretty good, and very entertaining. If you were a fan of "CATS" on Broadway, then Oasis is the ship for you. This show was not my cup of tea, but the performers did a great job with this classic.

Children's Programs

No children with us.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Room stewards both weeks were fantastic. Some of the most unique towel animals I've ever experienced. Our wait staffs both weeks were similarly outstanding. I have nothing but compliments for them.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Oasis is huge. In it's immensity, it is well laid out, and easy to find your way around. In addition, the lay out is so well done, that despite over 6, 000 passengers, you rarely find yourself in crowds except if you're in the forward elevator bays as shows let out. Otherwise, traffic flow is amazingly good.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
This cabin is a Junior suite. Very well laid out. Full bathtub, rather than tube showers. A walk in closet. Very spacious and lots of storage.

Ship tip

If you like large ships with a lot of things going on all the time, you'll love Oasis. As a retired Naval Officer, I prefer smaller ships however to feel the motion of being at sea and experience more closely the beauty and majesty of the open ocean. It is very easy on Oasis, to never go up on deck and if you do this, it has more of the feel of a 4 star hotel, than a ship at sea. My preference is smaller, quieter ships.

Ports of call

Port Canaveral, Florida Did not visit port

Origination port. We just had to pass through customs and get back aboard for our second week.

Labadee (Cruise Line Private Island)

4 out of 5
If you like laying on the beach, one of the longest zip lines in the world that goes over water, a jungle roller coaster, barbecue lunch you can't go wrong here. If you need shade, they have "shells" that you can rent for the day for $45.00 or if you want to get extravagant, they have cabanas here that will set you back over $200 for the day (Shells or Cabanas can be signed up in advance, or purchased on board through the excursion desk, but best not to wait till then, as they fill up fast). Brilliant sun lit beaches come at no extra charge.

Falmouth, Jamaica

3 out of 5
Decent shopping port. Jamaica is the home of Blue Mountain coffee. Although very expensive (Over $15.00 per pound), it is one of the smoothest coffees in the world. You can get it as coffee beans or already ground. We bought 6 lbs on this trip. Great souvenirs available, Although not the best jewelry ports (St. Thomas and St Marteen have always been far better), it has a wide range of shops offering all sorts of jewelry. Tours are available as well. Check the excursions on the Royal site before you board for the best selection.

Cozumel, Mexico

4 out of 5
We like Cozumel. Our favorite restaurant there is called Pancho's Backyard. It is located at the port (over at the Caravel cruise line pier) or downtown. Both are good. The food and service is quite good here. We always stop for lunch while walking around the shopping areas.

Disembarkation

2 out of 5
Wait was pretty long, even with one of the early numbers. Disembarking 6,000 guests takes along time. Don't expect it to go quickly.
