Oasis of the Seas

7 Night Eastern Caribbean (Ft. Lauderdale Roundtrip)

Sail date: August 13, 2011

Ship: Oasis of the Seas

Traveled as: Family (young children)

Review summary

Very nice ship with lots of activities but noisy staterooms and shows with the music so intense it hurt and caused ringing in the ears were major disapointments. RC has improved their shows but the food quality has continued to drop as they emphasize their "for pay" food choices.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
As mentioned above, the food quality has dropped as they hope to sell you better quality. Kind of flies in the face of the old pay one price that is quickly disappearing. Stick to the main dining rooms for best breakfast and lunch.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
RC has greatly improved their shows. The Aquatica show was really special - get your reservations before boarding the ship on-line as some of the more popular shows fill up. Comedy club is small so you might not get in if you wait until on board.

Children's Programs

3 out of 5
Good facilities and the hours are good. No more breaks in service where you have to pick up your child. Food was horrible with only hot dogs, burgers and fries served to kids so you'll want to pick up your kids for meals.

Service and Staff

3 out of 5
Overall very friendly and polite, but unwilling to deal with our sound issue by either switching cabins or turning down the music that started at 7:30AM.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
Massive ship but you never felt crowded. Music with booming bass everywhere was intrusive and penetrated the staterooms. The music throughout the ship would be appropriate in the nightclubs not 7:30AM, each and every morning.

Cabin / Stateroom

1 out of 5
Sound penetrated our cabin to the point we couldn't sleep past 7:30AM. If you like the late night party and sleep in approach to cruising, as we do, you will hate this ship due to booming bass that starts early and penetrates the cabins.

Ports of call

Philipsburg, St. Maarten

5 out of 5
Love this stop. Great watersports and the beach tour packages are worth the expense.
Don't Miss: Beaches

Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas

5 out of 5
I always enjoy this port. Oasis docks in the industrial port, not the cruise ship port so you'll have to grab a cab but well set up and organized port area.
Don't Miss: Shopping

Nassau, Bahamas

3 out of 5
As one of the comedians noted, a billion dollar ship to a garage sale.
Don't Miss: Atlantis has some great activities but pricey

Pros: New Ship with lots of activities

Cons: Noisy staterooms and shows with earsplitting noise levels

Recommends Oasis of the Seas? No.
